The Maritime Museum of San Diego enjoys a worldwide reputation for excellence in restoring, maintaining and operating historic vessels. The museum has one of the world's finest collections of historic ships, including the world's oldest active ship Star of India.

Founded in 1948, the museum grew out of the earlier efforts of a group of local historians and maritime enthusiasts who acquired the sailing ship Star of India in 1927. Now fully restored, the Star of India is maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers and skilled craftsmen and sailed at least once a year.

The museum’s collection also includes the 1898 steam ferry Berkeley, the 1904 steam yacht Medea, the 1914 Pilot, the state’s official tall ship Californian-a replica of a mid 19th century revenue cutter, the H.M.S Surprise, a magnificent replica of an 18th century Royal Navy frigate featured in the award winning film “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.” and the USS Dolphin a treasure of technology and research and a former US Navy research submarine.

Along with church in the morning, and training a new guitar player.

Also located at Coronado is the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. The cemetery was dedicated in 1932, but US warriors had been buried there as far back as 1905, when a number of casualties from the gunboat USS Bennington were buried there.

The gunboat had been preparing to head to sea to assist a disabled warship (the monitor Wyoming) when her boilers exploded, killing 66 sailors and injuring over 100 more. The ship was so badly damaged that she had to be grounded to keep her from sinking and she was soon retired and sold for scrap.

In 1908 a monument was erected in memory of those lost in the disaster.

OMG the laundry! And one of his workout shirts was literally coming apart at the seams, so I did some sewing, too.
I like the ribbon you posted, that’s a keeper.
