Let us consider the stories of two Oregon Coast men who enjoy walking on the beach but go about it in dramatically different ways.
One man, Matt Love from Astoria, walks on the beach at least five times a week with his 15-year-old husky and has been known to build driftwood forts and plunge naked into the ocean. He just turned 50 and works as a writer, publisher and educator.
The other man, Dustin Harris from Lincoln City, walks down Highway 101 and across the beach open carrying a rifle, pistol and a permitted concealed weapon and causes multiple people to call 911 and report a potentially dangerous situation. He is 26, has two young children and works as an assistant manager of a restaurant.

So I presume the "older man" gets equally upset whenever he sees a police officer, game warden, duck hunter or soldier with a firearm. Somehow I doubt it, so the issue for the "older man" isn't really the firearm, its that he doesn't trust his fellow citizens, just the almighty State.
Somehow I don't expect Matt Love to write a similar article deploring police patrols in the area. Unless the police cite him for public nudity.
I am in NC right on the border of SC. I skip over the line to buy gas because of the 33¢ difference in state tax per gallon.
Anyhow, NC is open carry and SC is not. Well, while I was carrying a holstered .40cal, my shirt had come up and over the gun. I walked into the store and a SC sherrifs deputy confronted me. He asked if I had a CCW, to which I showed him my NC issued CCW.
He was polite and said SC is not an open carry state and said to make sure I keep it concealed when I come into SC.
I was open carrying in SC, therefore I was breaking the law. But I was polite to this cop and he was polite in return. I said I would keep that in mind and thanks and all that.
If he had been a gungho billybadass cop, he could have drawn on me and arrested me.
George doesn’t like it. George is getting angry!
Dont most criminals restrict their activities to certain places and times for our convenience?
I doubt there will be a problem with him. If he walks the same stretch of beach regularly, I’m sure the locals know all about him and leave him alone. He’s made his point, and has probably already had a few “polite discussions.” He sounds pretty level-headed. Even the obviously biased author of this article couldn’t find a reason to dislike him.
+1.
Fixed it:
“Being naked on the beach may be legal, but it’s not civil: Guest opinion”
Do they allow carry in nudist camps?
Do they allow concealed carry in nudist camps? (Don’t think too hard about that.)
How could it not be civil?
After all, the right to keep and bear arms is a civil right.
My son, a policeman, is required by his employer to carry, at all times, while in public. Open or concealed, it's his choice but if he open carries , his badge must be showing. He chooses to carry concealed because as he says, showing a badge and a gun just makes him a target for the crazies of the world.
No, because then, we might understand it.
“No magazine in the well. Other than that.....yawn!”
I’ve seen pictures like this before where the loaded mag is bungeed to the weapon. Ready enough, but not too ready.
So crime never happens on the beach? Who knew?
Roger that. Usually pretty handy but not handy enough.
KEEP THIS MAN AWAY FROM YOUR CHILDREN!
I think your son is making a very wise choice by doing that.
Had a friend who would always open carry—because “he could”. He would always get looks and occasionally folks would come up to him and ask him if he was a cop?
His response: “No...are you a criminal?”
IMHO not a good idea to open carry.
You may have misread my reply. I said that he chooses to carry concealed.
No sir, I said he was making a wise choice by doing exactly that IMO. I just re-iterated the fact about open carrying and my dumb friend.
It was I, who misread.
