The campaign for Scottish independence appears to be gaining ground, according to new polls.
With five months to go before the referendum that could lead to Scotland leaving the UK, the gap between the yes and no camps has narrowed, suggesting a two-point swing could be enough to secure independence on 18 September.

Nose to face: goodbye.
Yeah right, how “Independent” will they be once they vote to join the EU?
I’ve read that Scotland, on its own, will be the most liberal country in Europe. The depravity, faithlessness, and corruption of the place is beyond belief.
With no standing military and tied tightly to the UK pound I don’t see the exit strategy being well planned.
If Scotland votes like Quebec did then a lot of the Yes votes for independence will become No at the last minute. People will almost always stick with the devil they know.
More liberal than Sweden?
The SNP is an unapologetic socialist party. The videos I’ve been watching for the Yes side are promising free stuff to everyone for life.
And the ironic thing is that this is supposedly going to be paid for with oil money! Like how are they going to work that out with the greens, who are also the other major backers of this disaster.
People have to understand that this isn’t going to be the Republic of Braveheart. This is going to be Sweden on steroids.
They could have no military and just rely on the remainder of the UK and the US to protect them. That's pretty much what the rest of Europe does.
They currently have a higher GDP per capita than France so it seems they could be OK on their own.
“More liberal than Sweden?”
Sweden has very slowly been going rightwards in the past two decades. Baby steps... but they’re taking them.
Scotland? Good for them. And leaving will be good for England as well.
So when Putin puts his move on Scotland will the US will be obligated to defend it?
I am eternally thankful that my ancestors unassed that festering hole. Seriously messed up place.
What about when Russia starts drilling off their coast?
“They could have no military and just rely on the remainder of the UK and the US to protect them. That’s pretty much what the rest of Europe does.”
Can’t say I would sleep well at night if those were my choices.
Scotland leaving the UK will leave the British Parliament with fewer left-wing members.
And THAT is why the left-wing parties in Britain are opposing it.
A right-ward swing in Westminster would imho be a rather good thing...
LOL. Since leftist Scotland will probably take a page from O And ban drilling on the coast somebody will have to do it. Might as well be Puty Put.
GDP includes spending by welfare recipients and a lot of that money comes from the English. I'd suspect actual production figures wouldn't compare well.
Scotland will not be part of NATO, they will be on their own. However GB would never allow a Russian presence in Scotland.
