Happy Easter, Happy Passover. On this Good Friday, we mark the tenth anniversary of Mel's movie, and over the weekend we'll have something with a lighter touch.
Caroline Glick, my old colleague from The Jerusalem Post, has a column using a very Steynian word, "The Disappearance of America's Will":
The most terrifying aspect of the collapse of US power worldwide is the US's indifferent response to it.
In Europe, in Asia, in the Middle East and beyond, America's most dangerous foes are engaging in aggression and brinkmanship unseen in decades.

Thanks Rummyfan.
I ordered the book and went to the link on SWAT teams.
“The generation coming of age today is similarly uninterested in US global leadership.”
Actually, speaking for myself, it’s uninterested in killing people and getting Americans killed in order to intervene in affairs in Asia and Europe. 100 years and thousands of the bravest Americans dead is Enough.
I tend to agree with you.
“Actually, speaking for myself, its uninterested in killing people and getting Americans killed in order to intervene in affairs in Asia and Europe. 100 years and thousands of the bravest Americans dead is Enough.”
Amen.
The last three debacles, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan are more than enough.
Each time we lose more good men and woman, and they come home to less regard and even less help.
Boy, I like Steyn, but this article is almost 50% quotes from other journalists. Not much effort.
It’s more than a direct correlation (between the US elite’s preoccupation with social issues . . .). The falling international status of the U. S. is the natural outgrowth of its inane, immoral, illogical domestic policies and pronouncements. The backbone of its former power, its righteousness, is gone.
That may be true but what I remember after 9/11 are news items about and callers to talk shows saying that they and others refuse to show the Flag because it was too Republican. Also remember that network and cable news personalities either refused to or were ordered not to wear lapel pins showing the Flag.
In the Second World War, when the Japanese took Singapore and inflicted what Churchill called the most ignominious defeat in British military history, it was famously said of the colony's ill-prepared defenses that the guns were pointing the wrong way. In America today, the guns seem to be pointing the wrong way.
That is why I submit this addition to an earlier comment in the column:
In [the chambers of Washington, D.C., in] Europe, in Asia, in the Middle East, and beyond, America's most dangerous foes are engaging in aggression and brinkmanship unseen in decades.
Not since North Vietnamese General Giap had reason to praise the American press, et al as his most valuable guerrillas has there been such cooperation between foreign and domestic enemies of America.
From the Chambers to the chamber pot..
Void the bowels of Washington, D.C.! 2014 - 2016
“The backbone of its former power, its righteousness, is gone.”
Nailed it.
Agreed - We have plenty to worry about here. We are losing our nation and it is time to regroup and figure out who is friend or foe within.
But, to a moonbat besides constant sex and pot, there are no issues beyond social issues.
restraints to living must be abolished and then trashed. until all are gone, no peace.
This is the US under OBAMA....the world us going to blow up somewhere”??? The US is in a pre WW II. Mine set...My guess CHINA...they have what Russia doesn’t
MONEY
Around the planet, Russia’s neo-tsar, the Chinese Politburo, apocalyptic ayatollahs, Afghan goatherds and Benghazi jihad punks laugh at the very idea of American power, but on the home front, if your estranged wife failed to repay her college loan or you drink loose-leaf tea, you’ll get your door kicked down and be cowering in terror.
In the Second World War, when the Japanese took Singapore and inflicted what Churchill called the most ignominious defeat in British military history, it was famously said of the colony’s ill-prepared defenses that the guns were pointing the wrong way. In America today, the guns seem to be pointing the wrong way.
(Original pronunciation of Shakespeare's time. They said "war" like a pirate said "aaaar")
