In a speech delivered at Harvard Universitys John F. Kennedy School of Government on Tuesday evening, White House Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Adviser Lisa Monaco said it could help prevent terrorism if parents watched for sudden personality changes in their children at home.
President Obama has been laser-focused on making sure we use all the elements of our national power to protect Americans, including developing the first government-wide strategy to prevent violent extremism in the United States, said Monaco, in a transcription posted by the White House.
At the same time, we recognize that there are limits to what the federal government can do, said Monaco. So we must rely on the partnership of those who are most familiar with the local risks, those who are in the best position to take actionlocal communities.
Local communities are the most powerful asset we have in the struggle against violence and violent extremism, she said. Weve crunched the data on this. In the more than 80 percent of cases involving homegrown violent extremists, people in the communitywhether peers or family members or authority figures or even strangershad observed warning signs a person was becoming radicalized to violence. But more than half of those community members downplayed or dismissed their observations without intervening.
So its not that the clues werent there, its that they werent understood well enough to be seen as the indicators of a serious problem, said Monaco.
What kinds of behaviors are we talking about? she said. For the most part, theyre not related directly to plotting attacks. Theyre more subtle. For instance, parents might see sudden personality changes in their children at homebecoming confrontational. Religious leaders might notice unexpected clashes over ideological differences. Teachers might hear a student expressing an interest in traveling to a conflict zone overseas. Or friends might notice a new interest in watching or sharing violent material.
The government is rarely in a position to observe these early signals, so we need to do more to help communities understand the warning signs, and then work together to intervene before an incident can occur, while always respecting our core commitment to protecting privacy and civil liberties, said Monaco. During the past several years, thats what weve attempted to do."
What do they want us to do? Turn in our children to the regime because their behavior changes, I don’t think that’s happening. What a bunch of idiots. Gee, I wonder if the 2 princesses have had changes in their personalities?
Lol - true! Or, Dr. Evil and his ‘fricken sharks’!
Unfortunately, with this administration, you are considered a violent extremist if you believe in the Constitution and limited government...
President Obama has been laser-focused on...
(Insert trite overused cliche here.”
Also...developing the first government-wide strategy to prevent violent extremism in the United States,
What the heck does that mean?
Probably gun control...?
Have you ever been in a classroom full of 14 year old girls with a whole lot of hormonal imbalances going on? I’d rather reason with terrorists. <^..^>
Teenagers confrontational??? Gee, that has never happened! Clearly every person from 14-18 is a terrorist!

A nightmare. :-)
.
Cats like to chase those things around, too.
Apparently, the authors never had children of their own. When puberty strikes, it’s nothing but personality changes. Shall we automatically load kids up on pills at that age?
An excellent writer on the topic of drugs and kids is Alan Frances, MD, who was head of the DSM4 board and who is extremely upset about DSM5, which essentially provides diagnoses for everything your child does, thinks, or avoids. His latest article, NO CHILD LEFT UNDIAGNOSED is here:

A quick quote from that essay: “Egged on by well meaning (and not so well meaning) experts and by greedy drug companies, we are fast approaching this dystopic wonderland of universal childhood mental illness.”
Liberals know down the line they will be caught for meddling with FOREIGN terrorists to get their campaigns started. Hence they will put laws attacking only DOMESTIC terrorists.
Legislation of “domestic violence” has implemented a legal lemming movement by the sheeple to naturally favor pimps and gangsters and corrupt politicians over families.
America’s voting public is disgusting to me these days, surrendering like this.
Well, kids are told to turn their parents in, so parents also getting the OK to turn their children in makes sense to me. Imagine 1970’s East Germany with limitless amounts of money and high tech!
I really hated the film “Fahrenheit 451”. So did Bradbury. Now...
How many lasers does 0sharkboy have on his head?
“including developing the first government-wide strategy to prevent violent extremism in the United States”
NSA Data-Gathering.
If only Stanley Dunham had done so.
Yep - can't "profile" them or any of the most likely to kill us, but they encourage us to profile against citizens. Of course, they first try to corrupt the children with their brand of lawlessness and disgust for America, so who knows; they might be right to keep an eye on them - unless, of course, they vote Democrap, in which case they become a protected species.
