Prosecutors have filed a first-degree murder charge against a 47-year-old Observatory Park man accused of killing his wife while she pleaded for help on a call with a 911 operator.
Richard Kirk purchased marijuana candy about 6:40 p.m. Monday and is accused of shooting his wife to death about three hours later.

The 44-year-old woman spent 13 minutes on the phone with the 911 operator. According to dispatch recordings, it took officers more than 15 minutes to arrive at the brick Tudor home.

Also, a classic example of "when seconds count, the police are minutes away", in this case 15 minutes away, which turned out to be two minutes too long for the murdered mother.
I truly hope this man presses a gazillion dollar lawsuit against this pot shop and the makers of this "candy". A big win would go a long ways to cracking up the "legal" dope "industry" in both this state and the rest. I guess that's the one silver lining to making dope legal: you can sue the bastards who've harmed you. Can't wait for lawsuits that start happening for death and mayhem on the highways due to pot intoxication, as there is no liability protection for pot sellers in this state like there is for alcohol. And soon there will be the lawsuits for chronic damage like brain atrophy, loss of employment, etc.
(Also, I imagine this poor man will have a darn good defense in court as well, as clearly he had greatly diminished capacity, which was recorded on the dispatcher's tape to boot.)
Did he know he was consuming it?
This proves that 911 is the Gov’ts idea of Dial A Prayer.
“Already, yet another tragedy caused by legal dope in Colorado. This guy was apparently a good guy and devoted husband and father until he made the fatal mistake of consuming some poor quality-control pot “edibles” that appear to be have been massively overly potent.”
Caused by...prove it.
devoted husband and father...they usually buy drugs, right?
mistake...how?
And if we give drivers licenses to illegals, they won’t drive drunk any more..
'They were almost there,' Sonny Jackson, a Denver Police Department spokesman, told The Denver Post.
Oddly, later reporting seems to drop this weak attempt to say, "We weren't really all that late; we almost got there in time."
He thought about doing it long time and used Candy Weed as an excuse.
This guy is no victim.
This is DEFINITELY a”get Out Of Jail”Card!!
But on the otherhand, I agree with you. Any one that smokes pot or takes mind altering substances are criminals. They put other's safety in danger every time they purposely put their mind in an altered state.
Note to self: Never buy prepared food in Colorado. Eat out of a can!
I would say that he was a participant.
The article states that his wife said he may have taken pain pills as well. I wonder if the drugs interacted? I guess toxicology will give the full results later...
Suspicious candy... what might have been added when making it or what it might have affected him in the blood mix, since it is not likely the MJ caused such erratic behavior.
Marijuana is not a stimulant like cocaine or other drugs, in fact it has the opposite effect. Unless he was on a psychotic medicine or mood altering drug like Paxil....known to create violent thoughts.
I taught STDs and Drugs, along with Juvenile Delinquency/Juvenile Justice, so my take is something was added to those candies during the process. There are a 100 murders due to some online purchases at a cocaine website.
Note to self: Never take food in return for distributing 30 round magazines while in Colorado. CASH ONLY!;-D
Oh but that can’t possibly be true....after all the pot folks have told me how safe pot is and how having it sold under approved conditions would be the panacea to all of the world’s ills
Since when is it a good decision to get high? The only reason to use dope is to get high. It is like drinking until you are drunk.....stupid decisions
“devoted husband and father...they usually buy drugs, right?”
There are many other articles that have delved into this guy’s history. He’s just a Joe that decided to give “legal” pot a whirl. Unfortunately, I personally know many more who are making this same decision, “Oh, hey, it’s legal now, it might be fun to try, etc.” And almost NONE of these have ever done pot before, or if they did, it was like a million years ago when they were kids and all most people could get then was Mexican brick weed, and they have no idea that what’s being sold now is a 100 times more potent.
Do you also believe that guns kill people? Blaming inanimate objects or substances is a logical dead-end. This guy was fully responsible for his actions.
“But on the otherhand, I agree with you. Any one that smokes pot or takes mind altering substances are criminals. “
You mean criminals like people who drink?
“This guy was fully responsible for his actions. “
Not if what he consumed was not what it was represented to be. Like if you bought salt at the grocery store and it turned out to be rat poison instead. Or if you bought a bottle of a cordial that said it was 15 proof on the label and it was really 190 proof.
