DENVER House Democrats approved on a 37-28 party-line vote Thursday a bill aimed at improving their odds in recall elections over the objections of Republicans, who argued that the measure violates the state constitution.
Senate Bill 158 redefines Election Day as the day that early voting begins, which would allow county clerks enough time to mail out ballots before a recall. Last years historic recalls were conducted as walk-in elections, prompting some Democrats to blame voter suppression after two Senate Democrats were ousted.
Democrats said the bill was intended to harmonize recall voting with last years sweeping elections overhaul that mandated mail-in ballots, but Republicans accused Democrats of attempting to rewrite the constitution through the legislative process.
As legislators we all took the same oath to uphold the constitution, yet somehow the Democrats believe their current majority in the state legislature entitles them to change our constitution behind Coloradans backs, said state Rep. Tim Dore (R-Elizabeth) in a statement. Both the attorneys general office and secretary of states office believe the constitutional change should be decided by Colorado voters

During a recall there is not enough time to stuff a ballot box.
I thought this was satire. Voter suppression if they don’t have time to cheat?

harmony.
We will simply kill this nonsense when we take over in November.

F***ing Democrats. They wonder why people hate them so much.
DIMocRATs are such irritating a**es.
Thanks rellimpank. When the recalls succeed now, it’ll be even more humiliating, and an historic repudiation.
But you’ll need the Governorship, and that’s not necessarily in the bag.
As long as Tancredo isn’t the GOP nominee, I think we can beat Hick.
I prefer Mike Kopp, but Gessler or Bob B. should also be able to do the trick.
I’d be wary of Beauprez, given his sizeable loss in 2006 against Ritter. At least Gessler has won statewide, so that’s a positive in his favor.
Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
Exactly! Spread their names far and wide!
Boot all of their butts out!
OMG! I just got a phone call from The Quinnipiac folks. LOADS of questions about guns, Obama, Hillary and stuff. Also, LOTS of questions about Colorado politics.
Yeah. I nuked them.
(But, I’ll likely get my door kicked in soon)
