Will their unemployment benefits be based on what they were being paid, or on the new minimum wage?

“I REALLY hate saying “I told you so” in this instance.”

Don’t feel bad; who do you think voted for the people that raise the minimum wage? I doubt it is the gibsmedat who has never had a W-2 issued to anyone in their family tree...

Just as blacks are suffering under Dem rule, the unskilled workers are paying a price as well.

The Libs baffle me. The real money for a waiter or waitress is not paid by the establishment. What real good does raising the wages by a buck who only work 20-30 hours per week?

The person hit hardest is the employer. And so it goes...

California defeats progress at every turn.

No problem. California will just pass a law stating that businesses like this cannot close.

I’m betting that most of the employees voted for Obama and were giddy to hear about the raise in MW!!! Yaaaaay! They all screamed! Time now to cuss out the owners for not digging into their own gold lined pockets! I’ll bet they have a boat and a car and a house and everything! Sell it! Pay me!

Leftists believe that all businesses exploit their employees. They don’t care if they force them to close. In their ‘minds’ only the state can run a business properly.

I saw an estimate that 80% of sit down restaurants were on the edge of going under. The increase in neat prices and the min wage will finish off a bunch of them.

I hope this place can get safely closed without being looted by the staff.

A great letter. I only wish that the owners had stressed one additional point of basic economics, to show how dumb liberals are:

The $1 increase in the minimum wage will cost them $40,000/year. Assume that the restaurant's margin's are 25%..( rent, utilities, insurance, maintenance etc..wouldn't change much...just food costs)thus, to clear another $40k, they'd have to INCREASE their business by at least $150,000..it's not a dollar for dollar charge to the bottom line..

I grew up in Brea, so I drove by this restaurant many a times in the 1980’ and 90’s. I always wondered how the food was. I suspect pretty good to have that long of a run.

You’re selectively ignoring the decline in seniors’ incomes, the rise in the price of shrimp, and hikes in insurance rates. If not for these, if a business can’t survive paying its workers, I’d say good riddance.

Minimum Wage Increase Kills Another Business

Yeah the increase in fish prices, the economy, and the aging building had nothing to do with it. </sarcasm>

Their website is still up:

I used to love California's good-quality, inexpensive seafood restaurants.
