Sriracha Hot Sauce may move its factory out of California because of a months-long battle with the city of Irwindale over the smell from the factory, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Sriracha sauce creator David Tran said on Wednesday that there have been multiple offers from other cities in California as well as other states to move his factory and leave Irwindale behind. He invited the various interested parties to tour the factory and see if the smell would be a problem.
One week ago, the Irwindale City Council voted unanimously Tran’s factory to be declared a public nuisance even though Tran had promised he would fix the problem by July 1. Tran is worried that even if he fixes the smell, and residents still file complaints, he will be embroiled in legal disputes for the foreseeable future. He told the Times: "[City officials] tell you one thing, but think another. I don't want to sit here and wait to die.”
Irwindale City Attorney Fred Galante, along with Irwindale officials, feel that all they are asking for is an action plan, the Times notes, and they claim that Tran is being intransigent in not providing one to this date. Galante said of Tran’s threat to move: “This seems very extreme. It's disappointing giving that [air quality officials] have explained that there are readily available solutions.”

My suggestion this morning was for him to tell irwindale to stick it and tell them adios. Suck it up and leave Cali in the rearview.
With one breath the city labels him a public nuisance and in the next they call his threat of leaving extreme. You’d think they’d be happy that he’s leaving. Liberals are never happy unless everyone is miserable.
Very costly solutions no doubt.

I’m as big a fire eater as you’re likely to find, but there’s an odd background sweetness I find somewhat off putting (their ground chilies are much more my thing).
Still, how America has embraced this once alien cuisine makes me proud of how we assimilate and are open to reasonable, positive change, and no where is this more clearly illustrated than in our foods.
I thought he told Texas a couple of times that he wasn’t interested in moving, and wouldn’t even listen to the offers.
I think that other posters may be correct. There are places in Ventura county closer to the farms that would suit him just as well.

i.e., We don’t get a kickback if we can’t steer Siracha to the one company we’ve certified to install air filters and stuff.
Rooster sauce is an acquired taste. Maybe too hot for most palates to handle.
He’s right to move. Once those sorts, council people of any community level their sights on a business for any reason, they never stop. Have vast experience with that.
If he’s going to move he might as well get out of California. Too much regulation, and too many taxes.
