Liberals love government, they can’t get enough of it. Where else could you “work” with such incompetence and criminality and still make a 6 figure salary.

I'm, not a shrink and I don't play one on TV, but I think several factors are involved: 1) they're addicted to the perks of office and power to boss people about with the club of government retribution always at hand; 2) these people are extremely arrogant; 3) they see themselves as an elite group that should rule over the dumb masses pf peasants.
I think those are the primary ones, but there are others. Incompetent, evil people are flawed human beings that have a real dislike for the average citizen. These people deserve to be put down like the rabid vermin they are.
Because they have no shame - a requirement for a career in politics.
It is less about the salary (money) and more about the power they can wield.
Why else would anyone spend $millions to get elected to a position that pays $174,000 per year?
Of course, the perks and under-the-table/off-shore stuff are nice add-ons.
Because the only possible way for them to make money is leeching off the American taxpayer.
