Bowman posted the video, taken on a helmet-mounted camera, to YouTube, leading cyclists around the city to recount on social media similar experiences they had in the area.
"I thought I'd just outrun the attackers," he wrote. "Wrong. Unless you're going downhill or already have some major speed, they will block your escape routes and grab any part of your bike or clothing to try to bring you down."

Better yet, carry a pocket of packets that appear to have crack cocaine inside. Just throw the packets on the ground and they will be down grabbing as many as they can.
A lot (not all) of bicycle naysayers are so fat, lazy and/or out of shape that they have to drive 1/2 a block for a donut instead of walking or riding.
Was he wearing a Googlehelmet? People on this board seemed to think it was antagonistic to wear the glasses in public where “you might be filming!”.
No
Sheriff: “Farmer Dean, you’re carrying three pistols. What are you afraid of”?
Farmer Dean: “Not a damn thing, Sheriff”.
In MD, outside your home, you apparently have a duty to retreat...

I also liked the Yamaha 650 Special (vertical twin). They seemed like a refined and reliable Triumph Bonneville.
They were electric start and sounded great. That would also be a good bike to either restore or customize.
You can find parts on forums, ebay or places like Craigs. Plus, there are always swap meets.
I did a search to see what caltrops were. The would be effective, but I see Texas made them illegal in 2011.
Totally agree, great to get groceries or make commutes on. Also, a good place to see wildlife. I had an owl once lurch on a squirrel straight in front of me at twilight. A lot of things to see.
And always good to see parents taking their children out biking.

What’s the IQ of a lily-white bicyclist riding at night through the hood?
Cross Draw Shoulder Holster...
Sig P220 Carry SAO
4.5 lb pull, breaks like glass
It’s NOT a substitute!
It’s Preferred!
Many Bikers are unfamiliar with the concept of “gun-free-zones”.
Jammin up their ride may not be the best move.
I do like Sigs, but still I prefer my Kimber.
I’ll tell you what, we’ll go shoot, you shoot yours I’ll shoot mine, we’ll switch, then we’ll discuss pros and cons over some bbq steak heh.
I’ll supply the steak, you supply the bbq. We’ll get to the bottom of this yet.
Typical, arrogant, dumbascrap pajama-boy cyclist (but I repeat myself) finally learns that a 50-lb, 2-wheel, fractional-horsepower open-frame conveyance is NOT EQUAL to 3000 lbs of American steel with upwards of 200 horsepower motive force...
In other words, the utopian fantasy meets a fact-based reality.
“you apparently have a duty to retreat”
Uh...NO I Don’t!
I have a duty to protect myself!
And I also have no intention of sticking around to answer a bunch of dumb questions. (especially in that neighborhood!)
Violent gangsters running through the cities?
So what...Forget all that.
Lets get some snipers and go after some desert rancher trying to feed his cow.
He deserves what he got, right?
