House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has judged the GOP—and found it racist.
Speaking at her weekly press briefing Thursday, she said cuttingly that the reason the GOP has not followed through on a comprehensive immigration reform bill was simple; the GOP would be comfortable with good ol’ white Irishmen immigrating to the United States but not people of another color.

Kennedy was a major cog in the '68 and '86 immigration 'reforms'. A major part of his motivation in each case was to buy Irish street cred by making sure the illegal Irish then swamping Boston and other anchor cities were favorably treated. It can be argued that the unintended consequences of giving the Irish preferential treatment the last two times immigration 'reform' was implemented have put us in the mess we're in now.

The people of Mexico and Spain don’t share the same ethnicity. They just speak the same language. Most Mexicans are descendants of the native population of central america.
Republican “resistance” to reform is being pictured in the way Nanacy Pelosi wants to frame it.
It does not, and never did, have a thing to do with color.
It does have a great deal to do with bringing to America persons EARNESTLY interested in personal freedom, and of good character, and with skills useful to the commerce of America as a business enterprise.
Importing of persons who only want to bring the trappings of their former place, with all its limitations and rigid rules of misconduct, with them, who are of malevolent intent, or who possess few skills to assure personal success in life, is exactly opposite to the goals and aspirations of all those generations of immigrants who have found America, adopted its ways, and prospered in the new land.
