The context for this little chestnut of racial nastiness was a heated floor debate in the Illinois legislature over a proposed education reform bill. The fireworks started when Democratic Representative Linda Chapa LaVia, who is Hispanic, delivered a speech criticizing charter schools. Ms. Chapa LaVia was no doubt casting aspersions on behalf of teachers unions whove contributed heavily to her campaigns, are bankrupting the state, and dont much care for competition. In defense of the status quo which traps far too many children, especially children of color, in failing public schools Chapa LaVia appealed to her fellow minorities within the chamber. In doing so, she took a racial shot at her Republican colleagues, pointedly noting that were all over on this side [of the aisle], right? That didnt sit well with some people, including State Representative John Anthony, who is a black Republican (via Champion News):
LaVia: Listen to me, minorities! Im over here, because were all over on this side, right? What youll also find
[Jeers and shouts from Republicans]
LaVia: Wait, we have a half. We have a half.
A half. Is that how Rep. LaVia would refer to a certain former member of the legislature in Springfield? I suspect not. But in the heat of the moment, she needed a shortcut to denigrate the racial authenticity of one of her colleagues in order to rescue her inflammatory point. So she sneered we have a half, then continued her harangue. Stay classy, Linda.
UPDATE Republicans demanded an apology, and got one. Sort of. I apologize if offended anybody over there.
A Democrat racist.
Tell me something new. This is old hat.
The democrat party is the party of the kkk so its not surprising democrats call black Republicans names to take away their humanity.
Say that to Barak Obama!
I couldn’t get the video to play on the hotair link. here’s a version on youtube:
The left is obsessed with race and other dividing differences. They don’t see people, they see a member of a group.
There are no groups. All this racial dividing is wrong. I will never check any box regarding race on any government form.
LaVia might be a Democrat Hispanic, but she is also a racist, a brain dead politician and dumbass.
She should have said what she felt. Uncle Tom’s don’t count. Black conservatives get constant abuse by the liberals.
RACIST
Her apology was an apology with a but attached to it.
The Democrats are the political arm of the KKK. It’s all about the color.
“”Her apology was an apology with a but attached to it....”
Typical of the communists....and an ugly “butt” too.
Wow, FU Linda.
You know who else they called “half black” back in the day? That’s right, his majesty himself. Bobby Rush’s people called him a halfrican egghead.
I figured the RATs indeed had "all the minorities" since they had a veto proof majority and there hadn't been any mention by the media of minorities in the GOP caucus since the lone hispanic Republican from Cicero "lost" a rigged election against a hispanic RAT who didn't even campaign for the job.
It's interesting she's only counting John Anthony as "half" a minority. According to media reports, he has black and Puerto Rican ancestry, so as long as Luis Guiterrez counts as a 100% "minority", then this guy should too. Of course the media double standard where Obama is biologically 50% white American ancestry but counted as 100% black by the media is obvious, though Erika Harold is likewise 50% black and 50% white, and also referred to as a "black" candidate.
In any case, maybe LaVicious has done us a favor by elevating this guy's name statewide. If would be fun if he won higher office and it pissed off the RATs.
(Off topic but interesting sidenote: The RAT bill to ban therapy for unwanted same sex attraction went down in flames, one rare sign of good news in the People's Republic of Illinois. Apparently the RATs can't even resurrect it again for a new vote later this session because it was defeated by an outright majority (though about 1/3rd of the legislators weren't even there for the vote). My RAT state rep. was one of the politicians who voted YES on gay marriage but then NO on banning therapy for same sex attraction. Weird stuff.)
I don’t know much about John Anthony, but one way in which all the information we’ve heard about him might be correct is if one of his parents is a black Puerto Rican and the other parent is a white Anglo. That wouldn’t make the comments by Linda Chapa LaVia (that would make a great name for a female boxer) any less stupid and insulting, but it would explain them.
I know that he’s a cop by profession. Don’t know much else about him.
How the hell would banning that be remotely constitutional?
It may be a ban for parents submitting minors to such therapy, which I believe is illegal in several states. Curiously, such “progressive” states don’t make “gender reassignment” surgery for minors illegal.
It’s typical of the religion of Liberalism. When will the Freedom from Religion go after the Progressives?
