A federal court Wednesday ordered the University of North Carolina-Wilmington to promote and give $50,000 in back pay to a conservative professor in what is described as a landmark anti-discrimination case.
The restitution was ordered three weeks after a jury found the university guilty of retaliating against criminology professor Mike Adams, a popular conservative columnist on Townhall.com, after denying him a promotion to full professor in 2006.
This ruling sends a message to public universities: Academic freedom isnt just for the Left, its a constitutional right for all professors even Christian conservatives, said David French, senior counsel at the conservative American Center for Law and Justice, which represented Mr. Adams.
The order by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina is believed to mark the first time a court has awarded a promotion to a conservative professor challenging a university for political bias.
To our knowledge, this is the first court to rule that a university unlawfully retaliated against a conservative professor for his views, award him back pay, and order the university to promote him to the position he was wrongfully denied, said lawyer Travis Barham of the conservative Alliance Defending Freedom, which also represented Mr. Adams.

Excellent news - let’s hope it’s the first of many.
Great decision, but the award could have been higher.
“landmark” is right! A straight white conservative sued libs for discrimination and won! Rare indeed.
The Uni’s prezzy should be deported to Venezuela.
bkmk
$50K isn't enough to make them realize that they've been wrist slapped.
Mike Adams is one of the good people and he probably isn't concerned about the size of the award, just the fact that the jury ruled in his favor is OK.
Mike Adams is a kook who is nothing but an embarrassment to conservatives. I have a feeling this isn’t about the conservative views he supposedly has, but about his vast and profitable business promoting pseudoscience and quackery. I doubt that his “conservative” views are even genuine; the guy used to be a Democrat before he started peddling the quack science. He probably made the calculation that pretending to be conservative would increase his profit margin.
In any case, no university should be forced to keep a con man on their staff. Conservatism has nothing to do with this.
Mike Adams from Natural News seems to be a completely different guy from Mike Adams the UNC Faculty and Townhall columnist. This is just going by their respective photographs. Mike Adams is a pretty common name.
Whoops! You forgot the /s (/sarcasm) tag.
One win and millions of losses.

I think you might be confusing the professor with the guy who runs Natural News. They are completely different people.
Mike Adams the professor was denied promotion after he began criticizing feminist politics at the Uni and after he began writing in support of RKBA issues, among other things.
He’s a smart, witty guy who also publishes scholarly papers in the field of criminal justice.
Correct..... Mike Adams is Bobby Adams’ younger brother. Both lived up the street on Carolina Avenue
* Excellent news - lets hope its the first of many. *
I would love to see colleges sued to the point that they might have as many as 25% of the professors with a Conservative viewpoint.
It will probably never get that high though...
I'm going to take an educated guess that says you will be in the decided minority on this thread with your views on Mike Adams.
I never heard-—probably because a settlement would have been kept secret—but I wonder how much money the Duke Lacrosse families got?
You have got the wrong mike Adams. This one is one of the good guys.
Still dragging on...

Don’t believe any speculation (from The Daily Mail, the most irresponsibly non-edited rag on two continents) that there was a settlement in 2007 for $20M each.
Great news!!!
