A Nightmare Presidency
American Spectator ^ | 4/9/2014 | Ben Stein

Posted on 04/09/2014 2:26:35 AM PDT by Unam Sanctam

This is a bad morning. I was greeted by a headline in the New York Times that said Defense Secretary “Chuck Mullet” Hagel was planning to submit a budget to Congress to cut the size of the military to a level not seen since 1940, before the U.S. entered World War II.

The article went on to say that the Pentagon realized that this would be an inadequate force for even very small wars and certainly would not allow the U.S. to police the world and keep control of contingencies like a North Korean attack on the South or a Chinese attack on Japan or an Iranian assault on Saudi Arabia or a Russian invasion of the Ukraine.

The Defense Department officials further said that because U.S. forces would be stretched so thin, the U.S. could not win wars quickly and there would be more casualties in any future war.

So, in other words, the President (of course it’s not Hagel…he’s just a bobble head for Obama and his ultra-leftists) is deliberately disarming America to the point where he cannot guarantee his ability to defend the nation.

Now, my wife says this is just plain treason. I don’t know if she’s right because the Constitution has a fairly strict definition of treason. But it is surely the grossest kind of betrayal of country. This kind of action is the kind taken by a man who hates the country of which he is president. To knowingly lay bare the life of American fighting men to our enemies is something a lot like murder.

In a way, it stuns me. In a way, it horrifies me.

But in another way, it does not surprise me at all. Mr. Obama has never liked America...

Hungover Hagel is a disaster, and he hates Israel and Jews as an added bonus for Obama.

But Republicans are not clean on these military cuts either. They brag about how "wonderful" and "great" Sequestration is, that forces the military to "pay for" 50% of all the cuts despite being 17% of the budget. The Republicans not only signed off to the Budget Control Act formula that singled the Pentagon out, they are its most ardent defenders. It is even worse because according to the Weekly Standard, the GOP leadership in the House and Senate "secretly" met with Obama and gave him their blessing to the massive $487 Billion cuts to the military that started in 2012 - and those were BEFORE Sequestration took another $650 Billion. Both cuts last 10 years.

The Leftist counterrevolution to the American Revolution continues. It will not conclude until America is a smoking cinder.

Elections no longer determine who will represent a once sovereign people. With every cycle, elections increasingly determine who will force obedience. After every outright assault on our constitution, shortly after the dust settles, America with rare exception quietly accepts the new normal.

The rats have swept arbitrary, despotic powers into the executive branch. It is as clear as a desert sunrise, they have no intention of parting with them.

Elections are courtesy fornications that let us pretend we are still a free republic.

Bravo Zulu! After considering your post, I’m at a loss for adequate comment. Accepting a “new & improved” normal especially rings true. US don’t so much move onward & upward as slide into some slime from whence we never came.

Ben Stein infrequently gets it. Maybe he has finally jumped off the fence. I hope so, he is a smart guy after all. His desire to be viewed as a temperate (rather than intemperate) commentator flawed his thinking many times in the past.

Ben, please don’t “walk it back” after you are attacked for your statements. Tell them (the DNC media), “I have a right to not care if you disagree”.

Or not.

Well put: we have been reduced to choosing between the treasonous Democrat or the incompetent Republican pushed by unseen powers behind the screen. Apparently we're supposed to believe that the only people available out of about 100 million eligible to serve as President were the Kenyan Community Organizer or the Moderate Mormon. Now they're pushing dingbat Hillary and Bush IV. Lucky us.

Meanwhile Russia and China are just getting up on their feet to whack us while the traitor-in-chief slashes our defenses. How long are we going to sit around and watch this?

Obama has accomplished his financial terrorist goals...no money-trillions added to the national debt. America is now a third world country unable to defend itself. Obama must be celebrating with Mooch, who did her part to bankrupt the country spending millions per trip and who knows how much the meals cost, probably could have fed a small Army.
Speaking of money:
Where is the $6 billion lost by the State Dept?
Where are the 1700+ weapons that disappeared with Fast and Furious?,
Where are the 400 Surface to Air Missiles stolen in Benghazi?
Where is that Airliner no one can find from Maylaysia?

Maybe they are funding their own country.

From Chainmail: We have been reduced to choosing between the treasonous Democrat or the incompetent Republican . . .

Yes.

Let's pause, step back, and take an even broader view.

The Framers' system relied on institutional checks (not a bill of rights) to secure our freedoms. A Senate of the states checked the whims of the peoples' House, and each of the three branches within the government had organic power to check each other, with little recourse from the other branches.

IOW the Framers also relied on force, in the form of distinct institutions that relied on the pride and ambition of individual men within them to protect our liberty. It is counter-intuitive, but the Framers' relied on man's self-interest, his vice, to do good.

Today, the institutional checks of the constitution have been replaced with two political parties. We assume the GOP exists to check the rats. By this, when pubbies win, our freedoms are supposed to be secure, and at risk when the rats win. Republican freedom should never hinge on the outcome of a single election, for if it does, it isn't really freedom, but rather benevolence from the occupant of the White House.

With only two opposing forces operating from one location, Washington DC, their once distinct goals have morphed into one. Their mutual purpose is to retain power. Losing an election doesn't equate with losing all power and wealth, it just means a little less than the party in power.

Freedom cannot depend on the power split between two self serving political parties, and the kindness of a President.

Until power is once again further divided vertically between fifty states and the federal government they created, there is no hope for the restoration of freedom.

Mr Stein just doesn’t get it...... After Vietnam, there will be no more war. There will be peace.

Make love, all kinds of real and queer love, in the oval office, on the sidewalk, anywhere, but not war. If there is no means, there can be no more war.

The war is coming and it will be against those that believe there will be no more war. .

Sorry, Ben, but money spent on defense is money that can’t be used to purchase votes from those with their hands out.

Obama and the Democrats don’t give a rat’s *ss about defending the nation or preserving it or anything like that - they’re all about raw power, getting it and keeping it, and America be d*mned.

I think it would be great if a retiring Republican Senator would start a campaign to return the right to elect Senators to the individual state governments as a way to reduce corruption in the federal government.

Ideally, that lame-duck Senator would offer zesty, detailed criticism of the corruption that our current system has wrought — starting with Dirty Harry and all of Harry’s illegally “raised” millions.

It needs to be someone whom Harry could not “punish”...

Not at all...just wondering what happened to all that stuff. As far as the plane being in the Indian Ocean, it seems to me that ‘I’ll believe it when I see it’, and that’s ok. Unless they had loaded all three of those items on the plane....lol

In my political daydream the senator is Ted Cruz. He delivers an hour long anti-17th speech laced with quips from The Federalist, the afternoon The Hildebeast announces her candidacy. Rip the shrew off the front page, or at least compete with her, and force the rats to defend a horribly corrupted senate. To possibly save our republic, he encourages state legislatures to grasp the power they once had. Oh well.
