GOP’s Alan Simpson backs gay marriage in ad

Former Sen. Alan Simpson, a Republican, is making the case for a “live and let live” approach to same-sex marriage in a new television ad buy targeting Western states, just as a federal appeals court in Denver prepares to take up the issue later this week.

“Whether you’re gay or lesbian or straight, if you love someone and you want to marry them, marry them,” Simpson, of Wyoming, says in the spot.

The six-figure buy, sponsored by the pro-gay marriage group Freedom to Marry, is slated to start airing on Tuesday on national cable channels, as well as locally in Wyoming, Oklahoma and Colorado.

Those states are within the geographic jurisdiction of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which is weighing a gay marriage case concerning Utah on Thursday, and is set to take up another one involving Oklahoma later this month — the cases could ultimately reach the Supreme Court.

“I’m a Republican,” Simpson says. “The party’s basic core is, government out of your life and the right to be left alone.”

“The party’s basic core is, government out of your life and the right to be left alone.”

I don't see anything inherently wrong with that.

You do when you see the natural result of that thought:

A repeal of DADT, DOMA, and allowing queers in the military for starters. Then you add in laws granting special rights for the pervs. Then there is the backlash against Christians and normal conservatives with Brendan Eich being the latest target.

Look; the government has ALWAYS had a moral and social voice in our laws and if you take that value away we will fail.

Admit it. You WANT the states to allow queer sex marriages if the voters so decide.

The moron doesn’t get that as these obsessively selfish pairings mature and fall apart in strife, and/or the children born or adopted out of these “unions” grow up, they’ll be so dysfunctional as to need more government, not less.

“You WANT the states to allow queer sex marriages if the voters so decide.”

That’s Ted Cruz’s position:

“the federal government has tried to re-define marriage, and to undermine the constitutional authority of each state to define marriage consistent with the values of its citizens.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2014/02/13/cruz-lee-introduce-state-marriage-defense-act/

From a constitutional standpoint, marriage should be regulated at the state level. But my personal opinion is that government should not be involved at any level. I look to the Catholic church for my definition of marriage, not to government.

The problem isn’t the sex act... it’s that gays are turning their brand of sexual activity into a political movement.

To do that they need people who allow them to pretend to be victims...

If we look at how much money gay’s make - or their power base - it’s obvious they’re NOT victims. When they can fire CEO’s for believing in traditional marriage they’ve crossed the line into thuggery... we can fight back but not in the way we’ve been fighting. They’ve turned our tactics into recruitment posters.

With the ultimate goal of destroying all vestiges of Western Judeo-Christian Civilization.

Had Simpson been pro-life, he, not Dan Quayle, was GHWB’s supposed choice for VP in 1988.

Actually WY wanted him again, but he bowed out in 1996.

Well, it’s only fair. Marry any or all of your siblings if you want to. Heck, mom and dad too! And maybe the nice widower down the street. He’s lovable.

Not sure what the argument would be against it.

not about love. If that is all it is, you should be able to marry your sister, cousin, mother, aunt, two spouses, your donkey...

That is the kind of poor thinking we get out of RINOs.

They want to marry, fine....Knock yourself out.

Don’t force others to recognize it.

Every republican was a conservative when Reagan was president.

Totally untrue; only a minority were true conservatives under Reagan.

Simpson is just ahead of the pack. The GOP in its entirety is headed in that direction. Eventually it will officially sanction queer “marriage.”

Exactly! The homofascists are way past wanting ‘recognition’. Now they want submission - totally, complete submission to their sexual identity. Failure to praise a homofascist is evil and means you must be driven from business and public life.

The majority of homosexuals I’ve met have been mean and vengeful. What made anyone think that would change if they got ‘what they wanted’?

Sen. Alan Simpson might have the very best tactic for stopping a political movement based on sexual choice. Take the power away by 'accepting with reservation'.

Remember the gay 'community' has based their power on being victims. The victim-hood addiction is so strong among members of the gay/lesbian etc community that they've gone so far as carving hate messages into their own skin then called police and the press trying to blame conservatives.

The Matthew Sheppard thing was a lie against conservatives...

It's what they do - toxic lies to secure power. Victim-hood unites them - then they flip that pity into becoming the all-powerful aggressors. It's a movement that collapses under acceptance with reservation... Which just might be the only sane answer.

“The debate over this issue is a waste of time.”

Given the number of homosexuals using “gay marriage” to attack Christian business owners, I’d say it is NOT a waste of time. It is a battle that can be fought now, or shoved down our throats later.

I want the religious freedom to say in public, “Homosexuality is sin” without being persecuted by the courts and by the government. And that right doesn’t seem to exist anywhere in America anymore. Religious rights, enshrined in the Constitution, are now entombed there, never to be seen again.

There is no tolerance from the Left. They believe in Submit or Die. The folly of libertarian belief is that it assumes the Left will stop at half a loaf - or 2% of a loaf in the case of homosexuality. It will not.
