After being caught passionately kissing an aide on videotape, U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister, who ran as a devoted family man and Christian, late Monday afternoon asked forgiveness from his family and constituents
McAllister did not answer his phone and his office did not answer its phone in Washington, D.C. and West Monroe.
But in prepared statement released late Monday McAllister said: Theres no doubt Ive fallen short and Im asking for forgiveness. Im asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve. Trust is something I know has to be earned whether your a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone Ive disappointed, McAllister stated.
From day one, Ive always tried to be an honest man. I ran for congress to make a difference and not to just be another politician. I dont want to make a political statement on this, I would just simply like to say that Im very sorry for what Ive done. While I realize I serve the public, I would appreciate the privacy given to my children as we get through this, McAllister stated.
The Ouachita Citizen, based in West Monroe, broke the story and released the surveillance video Monday.
Sam Hanna Jr., publisher of The Ouachita Citizen, said Monday the video arrived in an envelope a couple weeks ago from an anonymous source and his reporters spent the time between then and now verifying its contents and participants.
Hanna said he had been inside McAllisters Monroe congressional office at 1900 Stubbs Ave., Suite B, a dozen times.
McAllister is caught on tape embracing and kissing a woman, a 33-year-old aide, Hanna says is Melissa Anne Hixon Peacock, the wife of longtime friend. A self-employed cosmetologist, Peacock joined McCallisters congressional campaign last fall.
The incident occurred at roughly 1:39 p.m. on Dec. 23, 2013, McAllister, won the 5th Congressional District seat last year, running in his first political race as an underdog with an anti-establishment campaign. He was endorsed by the Robertson clan of Duck Dynasty fame. As the Duck Dynasty candidate, he defeated state Sen. Neil Riser, R-Columbia, even though Gov. Bobby Jindals chief political adviser ran Risers campaign.
After the election, McAllister said those who advised that Riser go negative should be run out of Louisiana for failing to represent Louisiana values.
McAllister, father of five who has been married 16 years, largely self-funded his campaign with the money hes made in the oil-and-gas pipeline business.
It is not like they were having sex! lol
At least he didn’t drive her across a bridge
Freudian slip of the keyboard.
They also have five children. I think it unfair to necessarily assume his wife’s knowledge—and, presumably, sanction?—in the affair.
I don’t know, is that a common justification that cheaters use for their behavior?
The moment I saw this story elsewhere in the MSM, I knew it had to be about a Republican. Democrats are not judged on their personal moments of indiscretion. Instead we would be hearing lectures about how it is his own private life and none of our business and it didn’t affect the way he governed (blah, blah).
As Christians, we are all sinners and the ones trusted with power encounter additional temptations, it seems. This is not to exonerate this man but only to say that if we have one standard for Republican elected officials and another for Democrat elected officials, nobody is going to want to run as a Republican.
Congress is not church. I can pray for this man’s Christian walk and forgive him his lapse. But I don’t want to see otherwise good candidates tossed out over a moment of weakness because his likely replacement could easily be worse.
The problem was he was never a good candidate to begin with. He's allied with the thug mayor of Monroe, LA, and this was known before the election. He supported amnesty, and this also was known before the election.
But no, everyone was blinded by the glare of TV personalities endorsing the guy, and apparently too stupid to make rational judgements.
I'm sorry to have to infer that many FReepers - who allegedly are the most skeptical and informed conservatives in the world - got fooled, but those are the facts.
Thanks for the perspective. Sounds like this might end up for the best?
Yeah, same here. I feel bad for those who haven’t ‘experienced it’...LOL!
On the vid, thats about as close as you can get without crossing the line. LOL
Don't sweat it! We're not all that versed in local "Monroe, LA" politics. Glad to know he wasn't another Ted Cruz tho.
Baton Rouge Advocate I guess may not be left wing rag. Look for all the big MSM papers to have “Republican” in the headline. If he doesn’t resign, the GOP should see that he’s off the ballot in November.
So who is your “Saint” that we should all pray to?
I was single around 40. She was 22. Neither of us were married. It never left the elevator. One of many regrets.
Interview with the friend, Heath Peacock.
Something doesn’t sound quite right. Maybe he’s trying to get some revenge
“I know his beliefs. When he ran one of his commercials, he said I need your prayers, and I asked, When did you get religious? He said, When I needed votes, Peacock recalled. He broke out the religious card and hes about the most non-religious person I know.
Like Clinton and the big azz Bible.
He was a flake from the get go. I said so, and provided proof of his support for amnesty, and his alliance with the thug mayor of Monroe.
Nobody wanted to hear it, though.
Exactly! If odumbo can have his records sealed, why didn’t this dumbo seal his? Just say, “any video/texts/emails/phone conversations/etc. have been ordered sealed by me and anyone who exposes them will be prosecuted!” lol
