Florida megachurch pastor Bob Coy has resigned from his 20,000-member Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale congregation over a moral failing.
A statement on the churchs website reported the news: On April 3, 2014, Bob Coy resigned as Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, effective immediately, after confessing to a moral failing in his life which disqualifies him from continuing his leadership role at the church he has led since its founding in 1985,...

“What is it with so many of these televangelists that they cant seem to keep their pants on.”
They’re human.
My apologies, I thought that I had made it clear that I was speaking about the Pastor and church the article referred to. I am very glad to hear from you that the current leadership of the original Calvary Chapel is speaking against these dangers now. That is very good to know, and I thank you for letting us all know that. I hope they go further and disassociate with their branches who are allowing it. That would help clear up the confusion, as so many Christians don’t even know the emergent church and contemplative prayer is dangerous. They just assume their church teaching it is okay because they trust the “Calvary Chapel” label.

Well they can be human, but they shouldn’t be preachers. Gay Catholics shouldn’t be priests. I wouldn’t want a lecherous pastor anymore than a gay priest.
This is my Pastor. I hope he can come back...love his sermons. He can’t be replaced.
Bob Coy worked around naked women in Las Vegas where he managed a casino. After 20+ years, he has fallen off the wagon. I guess he’s human.
We are all human. Everyone is human including Pastor Coy and Jeffrey Dahmer.
Yeah...like stealing candy at 15 yr old and murdering your parents....sin is sin.
Interesting. I never knew that. It really does make more sense. Satan knows what our weaknesses are and he will use it against us every day of our life.
I agree that God may have future plans, but I don’t believe it should be as an overseer.
You may want to look at the Biblical qualifications for an elder in 1timothy 3
A leader must be above reproach. Certainly he can be forgiven by god, his family and the congregation but once the line has been crossed, biblically such a person is no longer qualified to lead.
Above reproach can very well make one qualified if after time he made amends and God sees fit to restore him.
I do agree however that the chances of that happening is slim to none, but with God never say never.
After all, he used a murdering racist to lead the Church into the lands of the gentiles.
Plus he forgave 11 disciples for abandoning Him in His tike of need, and one who swore He would never leave, even denied Him three times.
That is why with men it is impossible, after all we are a very unforgiving lot.
Whereas with God, all things are possible.
Any man can be replaced. As a practical matter, a retired pastor should probably be brought in for a couple of years to allow for healing. And anytime someone says about the new pastor 'He's not pastor Coy' the best response is 'I certainly hope not'.
Calvary Chapel with Pastor Coy was the first church I attended after I came to Christ over 25 yrs ago. Just two days ago I was cleaning out some boxes and found cassette tapes from services. Even 25 yrs ago there were a lot of young believers who made Pastor Coy out to be their god. Man isn’t equipped to get the glory that only God deserves and eventually the flesh wins. Prayers for him and his family.
Amen. Amen.
