Jeb Bush Outlines Campaign Strategy, Should He Choose to Run
NY Times ^ | 4/6/14 | PETER BAKER

Posted on 04/06/2014 2:08:34 PM PDT by jimbo123

With eyes increasingly on him, Jeb Bush signaled on Sunday the kind of campaign he would mount if he ran for president: one arguing against ideological purity tests while challenging party orthodoxy on issues like immigration and education.

Even as he sharply criticized President Obama for his handling of foreign affairs and health care, Mr. Bush made clear that he would run against the style of politics that has characterized recent Republican nominating contests. He said he would decide by the end of the year, in part on whether he thought that with a “hopeful” message, he could avoid “the vortex of a mud fight.”

“We need to elect candidates who have a vision that is bigger and broader, and candidates that are organized around winning the election, not making points,” Mr. Bush told an audience at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum here. “Campaigns ought to be about listening and learning and getting better. I do think we’ve lost our way.”

Andy Card, who likewise worked in both administrations, including as George W. Bush’s chief of staff, said Republicans should draft Jeb. “If Jeb Bush doesn’t run for president, shame on us,” he said. “He is demonstrating the kind of leadership we desperately need both in our party and in our nation.”

Same as McLame and Romneycare. Groundhog Day rerun. The GOP has open primaries in a number of States in which Dems are invited to tweak and corrupt the selection process, rigged as such to favor the handful of DC insiders

If his campaign slogan is going to be “sneaking across the border is an act of love” I”m not optimistic about his chances in the primary. :-)

2.5 edition is somehow less that first and second editions combined.

This family is beyond tiresome now.

“We need to elect candidates who have a vision that is bigger and broader, and candidates that are organized around winning the election, not making points,”

Well, that's true. We need to have GOP candidates - unlike people like Romney and whatever his name was - Santorum - who spent their entire campaign tearing down other GOP candidates but rolled right over and played dead for Obama.

However, I'm not sure that's what he meant. Probably in the primaries, he would be another mini-Romney - no ideas or perhaps only leftist ideas, and a vicious attack dog on other more qualified candidates.

He was a good Florida governor, but I see him more in the Romney mold now than anything else.

Exactly my thought...

I am not sorry I voted for Bush Sr....but no way no how can I vote for another Bush.

This is a big country. Find a conservative governor please who isn’t all about keeping to the same ol’ same ol’.

Jeb and Hillary could be running mates! However, the most dangerous job in the world would be president if Hillary were VP. Arkancide would be lurking around every corner.

I own a Honda Odyssey that is being recalled for a fuel line part that is deteriorating. My guess is that ethanol in gas is to blame. Wish Honda would look into that possibility.

We only use real gas, so perhaps my van is OK.
