Former Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr., Transferred After Prison Dispute
Chicago Sun Times ^ | April 6, 2014 | Michael Sneed and Lynn Sweet

Former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has been moved from a federal prison in North Carolina to a minimum-security prison camp in Montgomery, Ala., after clashing with prison officials and being placed in solitary confinement, a source told the Chicago Sun-Times.

The 49-year-old former Chicago congressman had been advising other inmates in North Carolina about their rights in prison, according to the source, who said a guard took exception to that.

As a result, the longtime South Side politician was placed in solitary confinement for four or five days more than a month ago, the source said.

It took about a month for the transfer to go through, the source said, and Jackson was moved to the prison camp at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama.

Jackson is serving a 21/2 -year sentence after pleading guilty to illegally using campaign money. He entered prison last October and is due to be released on Dec. 31, 2015, according to the Bureau of Prisons.

Rev. Jackson, reached in Tokyo, said his son, who suffers from bipolar disorder and depression, is “doing much better.”

Jackson also has been getting regular visits from his wife, former Ald. Sandi Jackson, and their two children. Sandi Jackson, who also pleaded guilty to charges related to looting campaign funds, was sentenced to a year in prison and has been living in Washington. She will serve her time after her husband is released.

IF true, and I am skeptical the reason in the report, that guard needs to be transferred to Montgomery too, AS AN INMATE. If Jackson was doing nothing more than telling other inmates what their rights are, that guard is a very very evil person who should never be allowed to have any authority or another human being or even an animal and should be incarcerated for a long time to pay for what he did.

Well, with that pedophile former rep back in the news, Rostenkowski came to mind, both pardoned by the Bent One, iirc, and both, along with JJJr, out of the Chicago machine...

I'll throw in Boston's James Michael Curley, most notably a mayor, but also a former rep, pardoned by Truman.

And solitary confinement for 4-5 days for a non-violent issue?

Unusual for a non violent issue...Yes...

He probably had become a huge PITA demanding special treatment and threatening retribution if he didn't get his way and the prison officials finally had enough of his BS and stuck in the hole to modify his behavior...

I actually feel sorry for him.

Don't... he would be the first guy to toss your ass in a re-education camp to modify your behavior and thoughts...

Not everything related to Cook County - or Chicago, is Breaking and/or Front page news.

Oh No! He has doubtless been victimized--that is what happens when someone disagrees with a Jackson---Jesse, his son or Shelia Jackson-Lee,the illustrious female historian who reminded us of our 400 years tenure under our Constitution.

These people are the stuff of farces. Gotta laugh to keep from going to the door and letting out a momentous yell.

Shouldn’t he be transferred to a state where he can prepare to run in a dem primary for congress?

Where would you classify it? Reverend Jackson is a national figure. Chicago is the third largest American city and the Chicago machine now has its candidate in the White House.

Just because it happens in your backyard doesn’t make it Breaking/Frontpage. Just plain ol’ news is fine.

Okay, I am just trying to learn the protocols. Sometimes, there are stories that ought to be national, but the reports are treated locally and then buried.

Good Point....Jr. probably wanted the transfer so he could claim residency in Alabama and run for the senate.

The optimum outcome is that another inmate kill him in prison.

Thanks PBRCat.

But he is basically a white collar criminal. Guilty of violating campaign laws. Why is he not in a minimum security prison?

He’s in prison because he is a CRIMINAL! Is that too hard for you to understand?

He will be welcomed with open arms by his community and probably reelected after doing a fraction of his sentence.

April 24, 1992: [Former Washington DC Mayor for Life] Marion Barry Released from Jail

He never quite made it back to Mayor of DC (there were too many other corrupt local politicians to take his place), but his worshipping constituents did elect him to a seat on the DC Council, a seat he's held ever since.
