Hagel: Too soon to draw conclusions from shooting(!)

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says it’s too soon to draw any broad conclusions about safety at U.S. military bases after the deadly shootings at Fort Hood, Texas.

He said Thursday that as the investigation unfolds, the Pentagon will continue to take a close look at any new lessons that can be learned from Wednesday’s tragedy and implement any needed changes to base security. …

Trained soldiers are not allowed to have weapons on post. Yet this one trained soldier had a weapon and killed three people.

IMO, neither would have happened if it were known that there were armed military personnel on that base……………

It is totally idiotic that there are no armed personnel on any military base……..

Just another killing field…….

I never thought about that. Was this the guy the FBI was looking for? With all the NSA spying they couldn’t find the guy?

As for Hagel, when I think of all the good men, and several were my friends, who died in Viet Nam then think about Hagel, Kerry and McCain living long enough to help destroy this nation, it makes me sick.

Both of these Ft. Hood shootings would have had far less death or injuries if the military men and women on base had weapons on them.

No doubt true.

However, we should probably keep in mind that this is not some new age leftist policy. My understanding is that military men for centuries have generally not carried weapons or ammunition except as issued them for particular exercises or missions.

This probably goes back to when rank and file soldiers were recruited from the lower and often criminal classes, and basically the officers were always concerned about the possibility of mutiny.

So the officers went armed at all times (officer's sidearms) and the soldiers did not.

Our family has traveled in Israel, and in that country every one in the military carries a weapon with them whether on or off duty. It is common to see young men and women out in the streets of Jerusalem and other cities in restaurants, night clubs and stores with an Uzzi slung over their shoulder. Street crime is non existent there. Probably because everywhere you go you see armed people carrying on with their every day lives.

I participated in two Team Spirit exercises with full combat gear and M16s. We were not issued any live ammo. However while on base Rat Patrol we had Colt 1911s with two mags of Winchester 45 ACP but could not carry with the mag loaded. Ha! We all all slapped a mag in as soon as we left the COD!

Let the guys carry!

I don’t doubt you are correct. However, the US is not Israel, and while I don’t have a military background, my understanding is that US soldiers have never carried weapons when on base except as their duties required.

Possibly this policy should be changed, but it’s not a Clinton or Obama innovation.

Perhaps one day someone may peruse the side effect disclosure on the meds that all these shooters seem to be on.

On that day the missing clue will be found.

Hagel: Mac daddies ba** less sock puppet speaks.

We all feel so much safer now that mr. sock puppet took care of haircuts and pay deductions, but the most dangerous evil that threatens us all smoking on base will be banned.

Handing them a gun and ordering them to kill another human is OK because we said so. Well at least their hair will be correct and they will be paid less and maybe they will not have to worry about second hand smoke.

Wow just wow.

It wasn't the guy....But the report said "there may be others going to do the same thing".

In other words, someone snitched. And it had to be someone from Fort Hood OR the shop that sold him the gun....since it was the same shop that sold one to Hasan.
