Selling a Poison by the Barrel: Liquid Nicotine for E-Cigarettes
The New York Times ^ | 03-23-2014 | Matt Richtel

Posted on 04/03/2014 2:26:43 PM PDT by PaulCruz2016

A dangerous new form of a powerful stimulant is hitting markets nationwide, for sale by the vial, the gallon and even the barrel.

The drug is nicotine, in its potent, liquid form — extracted from tobacco and tinctured with a cocktail of flavorings, colorings and assorted chemicals to feed the fast-growing electronic cigarette industry.

These “e-liquids,” the key ingredients in e-cigarettes, are powerful neurotoxins. Tiny amounts, whether ingested or absorbed through the skin, can cause vomiting and seizures and even be lethal. A teaspoon of even highly diluted e-liquid can kill a small child.

But, like e-cigarettes, e-liquids are not regulated by federal authorities. They are mixed on factory floors and in the back rooms of shops, and sold legally in stores and online in small bottles that are kept casually around the house for regular refilling of e-cigarettes.

The New York Times is on a roll lately, with multiple editorials railing against e-cigarettes, and also even one saying to stop eating meat and cheese.

Because they’re free to do so.

Well, just as long as they don’t have a trigger and go “bang”.

OMG. We’re all gonna die!

If I click the link will the New York Times go on to tell me how many thousands of people have been killed by this liquid nicotine?

I’m sure it must be in the tens of thousands. Maybe millions?

Because it’s basically impossible to smoke anywhere any more but some folks still want their cigs. Really nothing about them is any more dangerous than a regular cig, only you don’t have the whole lung cancer thing, and since there’s nothing on fire they don’t generally smell as bad. Which doesn’t stop the prohibitionists, they hate the fact that people are making their own decisions.

And it’s great in coffee, or a drink. Just a drop or two.

I am seeing more and more of these ....

the smokers always look a little guilty , like they are shooting up heroin in public , they furtively take a hit and then tuck the device away , while looking around to see who is noticing .

More stupidity

And the government hates it even worse because they haven’t figured out how to tax the liquid sufficiently.

From what I’m hearing a lot of people are having considerable success with quitting smoking with E-cigs.

I’m against the government stopping people from smoking. Having said that when I studied skin cancer they guaranteed way the labs used to create skin cancer in rats was to shave them, then paint them with nicotine. It was 100% effective. Okay, if I’d had doubts before that would have stopped me from smoking.

Exactly, e-cigs are a godsend for many.

This is simply an effort to demonize the substance so the government can tax it. Don’t buy into it. This is simply another effort to shape public opinion into asking the government to take away one more of our freedoms.

Well sure, because they’re not really quitting smoking. They’re still getting their nicotine, they’re still getting their act of smoking, they even heat it so it feels close to the same in the mouth. Using these to quit smoking is like quitting hard liquor and switching to mixed drinks.

Actually they are using them to quit smoking. It wouldn’t have said so if I didn’t mean it.

Winner!

Taxing it. Good for you? Bad for you? Who cares. As long as the gubmint can get some money out of it - its all good.

as opposed to regular cigarettes? You don’t use it by the barrel. Some folks think that it helps them get off of the other kind
