Last Sunday, The New York Times published a front-page article about the heartfelt need of California farmers for more illegal aliens.
The first tip-off that heinous public policy ideas were coming was that the Times introduced farmer Chuck Herrin, owner of a farm-labor contracting company, as a "lifelong Republican." That's Times-speak for "liberal."
Herrin admitted that he employs a lot of illegal aliens and bitterly complained that they lived in fear of "Border Patrol and deportations." (But, apparently, he doesn't live in fear of admitting he's violating our immigration laws.)
Sorry that running a country inconveniences you, Chuck.
He said his illegal alien employees deserved amnesty because if "we keep them here and not do anything for them once they get old, that's really extortion."
As the punch line goes, "What's this 'we,' paleface?"
Taxpayers have been subsidizing Chuck Herrin's underpayment of his illegal labor force for decades, with skyrocketing taxes to pay for schools, roads, bridges, food stamps, health care and so on. Now Herrin thinks "we" are supposed to support his illegal employees in their old age, too.
Here's another idea: How about a federal law mandating that employers of illegal aliens take responsibility for the people they hire? Why is the taxpayer on the hook for illegal aliens' food, housing and medical care, when Chuck Herrin got 100 percent of the profit from their cheap labor?

There are thousands of these employers...
They count their profits on the backs of tax payers
It is a neat solution though.
I think employers should be held liable if their illegal alien employees commit crimes while in their hire.
It’s really disgusting; these farmers are determined to bring back feudal times when they owned their employees like chattel and other people didn’t stand a chance at employment.
Two things:
A lone voice of reason tried this about 15 years ago here in Iowa. It was in Storm Lake, IA...and it was either the Mayor or Chief of Police. Storm Lake was always a beautiful, clean little town, until the packs started advertising and importing labor.
Suddenly, this small community was forced to build a new jail (imagine that)! The official CORRECTLY said that the Corporation who had visited this upon the community should pay for it. Nearly everyone agreed with him, except those loudmouths with the largest microphones...so as usually happens he was shouted down as a “racist” for daring to try to put the blame where it belonged.
Number two (and even more egregious). A few years ago, I watched a show about a Charity Auction that was being held in California (wine auction). It was an annual event, put on by the growers in the area...how very nice, eh?
The Charity? To help fund the local “free clinic” for the workers...the local government needed more money to run it, you see (taxpayer funds apparently were not cutting it). They interviewed some of the wealthy owners of the vineyards at this extraordinarily posh event...all were lamenting the fact that THEIR OWN WORKERS could not afford to purchase health insurance...as though the situation was entirely beyond their control! Pieces of crap, they are.
Passing along the costs of their labor to not only the Community...but to their friends as well!
or...
could it really just be that you, “mr farmer,” want to generally depress the wages of your legal workers while cherry picking the best of the illegals at the lowest possible pay? humm, sounds like you may be addicted to our goverment’s illegal labor subsidy. sounds like you are another shameless exploiter of our skilled and hardworking American people; our nation’s legacy of peace, innovation, quality, and free enterprise under God; as well as an exploiter of the misguided and lawless illegals you’re purposely drawing in to America in mass numbers for the sole purpose of your own enrichment.
One day she is A Rino, the next she spouts fire and brimstone conservatism. And across the net, her current and former supporters go to war over her ethical flexibility.
Almost like she intends to keep people running in circles. Almost like that would keep the right wing off balance and unable to coalesce behind ideas and direction.
Almost like someone planned it that way. No...not ‘almost’. Not at all. Trouble is that few people see it for what it is. Or want to believe she either went to the dark side or was, there from the start. But actions speak for themselves.
Privatize the profits, socialize the costs.
A good lawyer could easily start taking them for millions on behalf of the citizenry.
She’s just reacting to internal polls of her own numbers, reading things here about her, and trying to figure out how to get people to buy her ‘books’ of rehashed columns with a catchy new title. She can’t get on TV if she doesn’t have some sort of mainstream controversy in her spiel.
Thank you for your contribution to the discussion.
Yup.
Fake Conservative. Indeed, she is.
I’m waiting for those Freepers to usually come out and tell us: “The Rules!” “The Rules”! Maybe even they finally understand what the woman is all about: selling books to suckers.
Chuck Herrin is a thief stealing from his community, state and country without remorse. He and his pals have done it so long that they think their entitled to it.
Who is an Coulter. Defender of the right or Karl Rove?
Illegal immigration stops the day a $1 million per day per per illegal alien. Start with restaurants, then farms, then processing plants.
So rail about illegals ad support RINO’s who support amnesty since they are supposedly electable.
Just go away Ann.
Sztorm Lake, eh? That wouldn’t be IBP country, would it?
