It’s really disgusting; these farmers are determined to bring back feudal times when they owned their employees like chattel and other people didn’t stand a chance at employment.

Two things:

A lone voice of reason tried this about 15 years ago here in Iowa. It was in Storm Lake, IA...and it was either the Mayor or Chief of Police. Storm Lake was always a beautiful, clean little town, until the packs started advertising and importing labor.

Suddenly, this small community was forced to build a new jail (imagine that)! The official CORRECTLY said that the Corporation who had visited this upon the community should pay for it. Nearly everyone agreed with him, except those loudmouths with the largest microphones...so as usually happens he was shouted down as a “racist” for daring to try to put the blame where it belonged.

Number two (and even more egregious). A few years ago, I watched a show about a Charity Auction that was being held in California (wine auction). It was an annual event, put on by the growers in the area...how very nice, eh?

The Charity? To help fund the local “free clinic” for the workers...the local government needed more money to run it, you see (taxpayer funds apparently were not cutting it). They interviewed some of the wealthy owners of the vineyards at this extraordinarily posh event...all were lamenting the fact that THEIR OWN WORKERS could not afford to purchase health insurance...as though the situation was entirely beyond their control! Pieces of crap, they are.

Passing along the costs of their labor to not only the Community...but to their friends as well!
