Boise, Idaho (CBS SEATTLE) An Idaho state trooper arrested and fully searched a 70-year-old Washington mans vehicle solely because he had a Colorado license plate a state where marijuana is legal a federal license plate profiling lawsuit alleges.
Darien Roseen was driving along I-84 between his second home in Colorado and Washington state on Jan. 25 when Idaho State Trooper Justin Klitch immediately pulled out from the Interstate median and began rapidly accelerating to catch up to Roseen, according to the complaint in a Courthouse News Service report. Exiting at a designated rest area, Roseen says he became uncomfortable that Klitch had followed him though he had not done anything wrong.
~~ snip ~~
At no point did Trooper Klitchs line of questioning relate to Mr. Roseens alleged improper driving pattern, the complaint states. Instead, Trooper Klitch immediately accused Mr. Roseen of transporting something illegal.
Roseens attorney, Mark Coonts, told Courthouse News that his clients constitutional rights were given no regard.
We believe that Americans should be able to travel interstate highways without being harassed and unlawfully detained because of license-plate profiling, said Coonts. Our client, Mr. Roseen, is a 70-year-old retiree who was returning from his daughters baby shower. He was stopped in Idaho and deprived of his constitutional rights because he was driving a car with a license plate from a state that ISP associated with marijuana.

You can’t really LIVE in Driggs unless you drive a Subaru.
“To see what he would do”? Why? Don’t you think the public might be a bit better served if this cop had stayed put and roared out when he spotted somebody whom really, REALLY, (say extreme speed, swerving and acting impaired etc. etc.), deserved to be chased after? There is no way this cop knew that the driver was gonna hit the curb and fail to signal when he pulled his little cop macho blast out and start his chase after this guy so that is not relevant to this as far as I can see. Also, you need to re-read the story. Where did it say this guy was found with pot on him or in his car?
Legalizing it is not the way to go
I can confirm that most Idaho state police are pure scum.
Mississippi allows drivers to drink alcohol while driving. All vehicles with Mississippi tags should routinely be pulled over and searched.
And don’t even get me started on the states that allow guns.
;-)
I remember there was a thread here on FR about a Florida man with Florida license plates who was driving from Florida to New Jersey.
While driving through Maryland, a state trooper, who had run the man’s license plate, discovered he had a conceal carry permit in The Sunshine State.
The driver was pulled over and harassed by the trooper, demanding to know “where is the gun?” Meanwhile, the man had left his firearm at home, in Florida.
Anyone remember that thread?
Let me ax you qwestion...what happens after you say NO?
FMCDH(BITS)
obstruction dragged facedown thru the gravel and finished off with a gavel
Not only that! We also have NRA and "Don't Tread On Me" license plates, along with the stickers.
If the officer has no grounds for a search, he must turn you loose.
Yeah, I kind'a figured that. When it happens, I hope that dash-cam is running...BWAHAHAHA!
FMCDH(BITS)
Yes I do. A good reason NOT to have a CCW.
Right. I just hope there's no coffee grounds in my car...
FMCDH(BITS)
Well, now that you ask, not much. Like every human grouping, though, we do have some who are substandard.
The aptly named Trooper "Klitch" needs to have his nuts removed and be turned out to pasture. I hope the gentleman from Colorado/Washington sets the ball in motion to make this happen.
Then there will be one less thing wrong with Idaho. Like doing the dishes, it is an ongoing task.
“transporting marijuana”
Should research advice from gun owners on transportation between states.
Excellent! But I suspect that if you drove into DC or NYC you'd just disappear forever.
Here's a good 5 minute youtube video on the topic:
Didn’t we used to have a FReeper named KoRn?
Whatever happened to him?
If anything ever happens to me, I’ll haunt this place via hologram, Obi-Wan Kenobi style! It has been said the path to FReeper immortality is reached after 10 years, so I have a few months to go yet.
