Did Joni Ernst Just Turn Herself into Christine O'Donnell?
The Iowa Republican ^ | March 26, 2014 | Craig Robinson

Posted on 03/27/2014 7:16:04 PM PDT by EveningStar

...The risk of the Ernst ad is that it may cause people not to take her seriously. While Iowa is one of the top agricultural states in America, 64 percent of residents live in urban communities. The question that deserves to be asked is, how does this ad play with urban women? From the ones I talked to on Tuesday, it didn't set very well.

"It reminds me a little of the 'I'm not a witch,' ad," one woman told TheIowaRepublican.com. "I think you could tell that story in a speech, but I would never use the word castrate in a television or radio ad. Plus, she seems just a little too happy about castrating pigs," the 35 year-old added. Another said that the ad created an image in her head about a mad woman roaming around Washington D.C. castrating legislators.

Those are two tough critiques of the ad, but one thing is abundantly clear – after pushing the fact that she is a mother, solider, and conservative for almost a year now, Ernst is now going to forever be linked to castration much in the same way Christine O'Donnell will forever be linked to her 2010 U.S. Senate ad that began with the words, "I'm not a witch." O'Donnell's "Witch" was also the first ad she run in the general election in 2010 in Delaware. The ad went viral. Some people loved it, others laughed, but the result was that people stopped taking her seriously...

You confuse mindset with ability

The House voted to repeal Obamacare what, 40 times? The law was not repealed because the Republicans lacked the political power, not the will to do so.

Political will is not political power

While I oppose any form of amnesty, as a legal immigrant
myself who had to jump through several hoops to acquire
US citizenship, all amnesty proposals are not the same.
Without even reading the fine details, I can bet
the proposals from any republicans will be better
than 99% of democrats. That is all I need to know.

The RINO’s you mention might be engaging in a
political strategy to win elections.
It is foolish to antagonize any large and growing voting block.

It is the same as Obamacare. While I commend Cruz in his
valiant attempt to stop Obamacare, he failed. Why?
Because first you have to win elections and gain majorities
in congress. Cruz’s attempt was 100% guaranteed to fail
based on current political reality.

Ernst has the official support of Mitt Romney AND Sarah Palin. What could go wrong?

BTW, Romney people produced the ad.

Urban women don’t like it? Horrors! Ernst was really counting on all those Republican votes in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Davenport.

He had more than enough to defund ObamaCare, if he had not had traitors in the leadership.

Look back a little to the 2010 election when the House was given back to the republicans. Michele Bachman tried to get John Boehner to defund ObamaCare he immediately began undermining her. He refused to fight and MacConnel refused to hold the line in the Senate. Your 99% better means exactly nothing.

Those votes were just to calm the rubes that still don't know the GOPe wants this healthcare bill.

We all know the only way to stop this monstrosity was to cut off the funding, the ones who had the power, refused to wield it.

They will however use the pretense to gather up some campaign money from those of foolish enough to believe the will undo it. Makes for some good campaign slogans as a bonus.

That’s a rationalization.

Given that the Senate would not vote to cut funding, the raw political power you dream about was simply not available.

I guess you mean refusing to raise the debt limit. that was done and it was a political disaster.

Politics is the art of the possible. Most of what you dream about was simply not possible because the political power was lacking. It appears that will change come November if delusional conservatives don’t cut off their noses to spite their faces and vote democrat to teach Republicans a lesson.

that was done and it was a political disaster.

It wasn't done the Traitors in the Senate refused to hold the line because Mitch would not back a filibuster and you know it.

If a few of those old GOPe turds had just walked down and helped the Vets move those stupid barriers from the WW II memorial it could have been a different story, instead they stayed inside and complained about that stupid Cruz.

If not now when? If not us Who?

Boehner or any one in congress can NOT defund Obamacare.
Obamacare expenditures are already baked into the ACA law signed by president Zero.

The House can only initiate new expenditures bills.
It can not unring the bell of laws already passed.
The House can not pass any law all by themselves.

Now you are just spouting democratic party line. If the House don't appropriate it, they can't spend it. Painful, you bet but they have the Power of the Purse. It might behoove you to re peruse the Part of the Constitution where they say no Congress can bind a future Congress.

The House of rep’s has ALREADY appropriated funding for ACA back when Pelosi was the Speaker of the House.

Again, the House has the responsibility to initiate spending proposals. It can not pass any law all by themselves without passing the senate and signed by president.

To stop funding ACA will require either modification or repeal of the law. That requires senate to vote for it and the Bozo in WH to sign it.
