Reports that federal agents were looking for evidence of child pornography when they seized computers from the Elgin district office of former state Rep. Keith Farnham shocked local officials who said the lawmaker was well-liked and active in the community.
"I couldn't even fathom it. I was stunned," said former Elgin Mayor Ed Schock, adding that Farnham always worked on the city's behalf.
Farnham has not been accused of any crime.
Federal agents were searching for documents "pertaining to the possession, receipt or distribution of child pornography" as well as computer files, copies and negatives of child pornography or any documents that depicted minors "engaged in sexually explicit conduct," according to a search warrant released Friday.
Farnham, 66, a Navy veteran who ran a painting business in Elgin before running for office, announced his resignation Wednesday, saying he had been "battling serious health issues for a number of years." He won the Democratic primary the day before, running unopposed.

It was in the title silly:
ex-Rep. Farnham
Rep. stands for Republican........
That's the obvious implication and what everyone sees when they read the title of the article but not the article itself.........it's a clever use of language.
This guy sponsored TWO bills to boost child pornography penalties!
They have the especially bad habit of mailing evidence to the police. It’s uncanny how stupid they get.
One guy told the SBI that a hacker put the stuff on his machine. “Did the hacker catalog all these DVD and CD’s we found in your closet?”.

Man!
The older I get the more I feel I really don’t know anything.
I talked with him at a town hall he held to discuss firearms. He didn’t strike me as that much of a creep. My bet is that he was taking campaign donations from Madigan and tried to play hardball or just rubbed someone the wrong way. He’s lucky he didn’t get himself disappeared.
pols in Illinois are all corrupt only the quick and the dead escape jail time including the Governors.

A few years back they wouldn't have mentioned it at all. I think FreeRepublic has shamed newspapers into a a modicum of honesty...
Devil’s advocate: Is there some way someone could have sent it to or put it on his computer without his knowledge?
100%
While I am for harsh punishment in proven child rape cases, the evidence should be much more than only digital files.
The same for locking people up over easily plant-able quantities of drugs.
Right now it is so easy to plant a felony on someone. They would be imprisoned at will and nobody would care since they were made to look like a child pervert or dealer.
Mayor Ed Schock was more Schocked than most.
Taking directions from his dear leader, Mac daddy the lying pu***.
I got my first computer in 1998, some have had one longer to be sure but in the 16 years I’ve had one, I’ve never accidently run across kiddie porn. The adult variety pops up when I am using a search engine and type in some key word that inadvertantly leads me to an adult porn site but even that is rare.
If someone has kiddie porn on their computer, it is by intent.
Someone needs to make a video of Dem corruption in the 21st century. Bribery, public corruption, sexual abuse, etc. one vid per subject. There’s plenty of material
What, who is going to watch a 90 minute video?
he was well-liked and active in the community
A friend of mine repairs infected computers, laptops and cell phones. In 100% of the cases if the owner/user is a man he finds porn on the device. 100% of the time.
....or planted by nefarious forces. Don't discount that.
Fast Eddie never served time. You have to know the right people and the right secrets. Daley resigned and traded his seat for Rahm to avoid jailtime.
Don’t some viruses drag porn onto the system?
It’s happened here in Chicago. Rape charges for one fellow and another drug charges. It was terrible even when it doesn’t end in a conviction.
