I got my first computer in 1998, some have had one longer to be sure but in the 16 years I’ve had one, I’ve never accidently run across kiddie porn. The adult variety pops up when I am using a search engine and type in some key word that inadvertantly leads me to an adult porn site but even that is rare.

If someone has kiddie porn on their computer, it is by intent.

....or planted by nefarious forces. Don't discount that.

Someone's intent, but not necessarily the owner of the computer. It's a perfect way to utterly destroy somebody, though. Get remote control, or just a few seconds of access to the machine... Plant some directories with a few hundred images... and they'll never prove their innocence. And this is a case people are assumed to be guilty and have to prove they are innocent, which they'll never be able to do.

This is 100% not true.

12+ years ago when newsgroups were much more popular than they are now I ran across this stuff.

It was some innocuous sounding thing like Hard to Find Recipes, Crocheting Images or something so benign I couldn’t understand why looking at the group name it had 1,000’s of entries. Once you opened up the group you found out why.

You won’t accidently run across it on a publicly accessible website, that’s for sure. It wouldn’t last an hour.

What scares me at this point is that, and don’t tell me this isn’t possible, is an iPod shuffle, the size of a quarter, could be filled with images and transferred to anyones computer left alone for 5 minutes. I suspect that if any government agency wanted someone framed, discredited or wiped off the map from a political/social point of view they could dump kiddie porn images/files on any of our computers.
