The Sportsman Channel's promo for Sarah Palin's new reality television venture features the gun-toting politico-turned-celebrity exploring her idea of American freedom: man caves, target shooting and race cars.
"Amazing America's" teaser "She's coming with a full heart and a full magazine," might be getting snickers but some think she's redefining political branding.
That's because, in this media obsessed culture, all of that on camera wilderness exploring, dog racing, and hunting, when coupled with fundraising and endorsing grassroots conservatives, adds up to a hefty boost in the Palin brand and political influence.
"It keeps her visible," said Julian Zelizer, a Princeton University historian and CNN contributor. "The way she's doing this, through reality television, might be the way politics is moving. Some kind of combination of being active in political arena...and acting in reality television might work."
In many ways it has for Palin....

Perhaps they’ve noticed that every time they attack her, she gets stronger?
“LOL, someone who hasnt checked in since the 2008 campaign.”
I have been watching...but yes, I certainly could have missed something. Do you know of anything out there?
Simple. I wasn't aware of the Rand Paul endorsement.
Now we have to deal with Paul calling for the party to move left, to drop conservative issues like gay marriage from its platform.
That was something that was already in-progress. The pushing of Romney is proof of this.
That's one reason that I'm extremely dubious of the predictions that the dems are going to lose big
and we [republicans] are going to pick up seats!
— simply put, if the party sees people as voting against the dems then they have no incentive to pull for good candidates, we already saw this with Romney and so I fully expect them [the republican party] to shit all over their core base just as they did before.
Go after Palin for Rand Paul, he is the one currently calling for us to move left.
It's true that he's calling for a move left, but again: I was unaware that Palin was at all instrumental in him gaining his seat.
Thanks, onyx. I still think he was assassinated.
She still supports an amnesty, but just tries to change the definition. Any legislation that allows the lawbreakers to stay and work here, the object of their crimes, is amnesty. Requiring them to register is still an amnesty.
O Reilly: (interrupts) Ok so After a period of time, the ones that don't cooperate then you catch them, they're gone. Now you have these people that register. You are going to have millions of them. Then they register and they say - ok we obeyed what President Palin told us to do -then what? - do you give them green cards to work right away, what do you do with them?
Palin: You know there has to be that expectation that they will work and that they will contribute. Bill, It makes me uncomfortable that we're even going down that path so far when ...
Whatever or whomever took him, all we can count on is that he is our special angel forever watching over us and prayfully guiding whatever he possibly can. At least that’s the way I like to think about it and him. Andrew Breitbart: forever missed and forever remembered. He sure loved Sarah Palin and just look at that photo... you can easily see that she adored and admired him.
I’m so happy to see you!!!!!!!
The reporter is a Muslim.
Good to see ya back, bud. Some day you’ll have to tell us what your visit to Zotland was like.
You didn’t happen to run into pissant while you were there, did you? If you did, I hope you told him that FR still loves Sarah :-)
She’s a neighbor of mine, but I haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting her. I did enjoy chatting with her parents in Las Vegas right before the election in 2008, when I knocked on a thousand Nevada doors to get her and her crazy grandpa elected. Anyone know if she is a lurker here?
I’m guessing that the stress of the Oval Office would’ve killed Juan in no time, therefore giving us what we wanted, but who knows?
Don’t ever leave again.
Sure, Senator Paul, Senator Cruz, and dozens of others, including our only Senate seat pick up of 2012, when we beat Navy SEAL Senator Bob Kerry, to take the retiring Ben Nelson(D)seat.
Palin has a long list of Senators, Governors and Congressmen among her, well in excess of 100 endorsements and campaigns, I haven't been able to find any person who has more shaped a party in their own image, nor anyone who has done more to move the party right through endorsements and campaigning for candidates than Governor Palin has, we have never seen the likes of Governor Palin.
She’s highlighting the fact that she’s one of us, and has the same values we have. The more people know about her, the more they want her in a leadership position.
Thanks for another thought provoking thread. You’re a FR treasure. (FReasure?)
“I don’t know if it necessarily helps her expand the base as it solidifies the base,” said Ben Fergusson, a conservative radio host and CNN political commentator who added that independent voters may turned off by Palin’s popularity. “It may alienate others.”
From what I can see; the ‘secret’ to being elected as a Republican is NOT the independent voters it’s actually pretty simple. MOTIVATE the base and get them out to the voting booth. Do that and the Conservative Republican wins.
Thanks...same confusing response.
A much CLEANER response would be to say that we build the fence, then end the benefits for the illegals, ALL OF THEM. We start checking job sites and make it clear that business owners face SERIOUS jail time if they’re hiring these guys. We sweep the places where they hang around looking for jobs. If we catch them, we deport. But, in most cases, the illegals will self-deport - if nothing is left for them here.
I think that is the answer we would LIKE to see from her or any other Republican. But they get caught up in the rhetoric: “Sure, they get to stay here, but we will be REALLY MEAN to them - so it’s not Amnesty”.
Jumping the shark implies topping the crest and beginning a down hill ride.
In my view, Sarah decided long ago to cease the daily grind for political office. She has instead engaged in becoming a voice for those things she fervently believes and raising and enjoying her family.
I am GLAD you are BACK!(I too have been put if FreeP Corner)!
