resident Barack Obama flies Sunday to a Europe shaken by Vladimir Putins seizure of Crimea and his threats against eastern parts of Ukraine.
At a summit conference at The Hague on preventing nuclear terrorism scheduled long before the Ukraine crisis Obama will confer with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other leaders. On Monday afternoon Obama will meet with President Xi Jinping of China, Russias neighbor and sometime rival.
Putin has forced the United States and Europe to refocus on the origins of the modern transatlantic alliance -- the 1949 NATO defense partnership designed to prevent a Russian invasion of Western Europe.
We live in a different world than we did less than a month ago, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen told an audience in Washington last week. Russia's aggression is a wake-up call for the Euro-Atlantic community, for NATO, and for all those committed to a Europe whole, free, and at peace.
Russian brute force is a jarring diversion from Obamas second-term agenda of combatting climate change...

Previous American presidents had occasional quarrels with European leaders, but never were we faced with a kind of indifference that Obama seems to exude, Joffe said.

Obama said Thursday that Americas support for our NATO allies is unwavering.

We are going to have to think very hard in Europe and in the United States about how we are going to respond to the Ukrainian governments legitimate requests to have the wherewithal to defend itself, said Francois Heisbourg...

In a conference call with reporters Thursday, an Obama administration official sounded quite non-committal on arming the Ukrainians.

Obama is both. Fool and traitor.
Good point.
That's been the official policy for five years now. It's been 18 months since the Benghazi attacks, yet the official White House response is that they are still exploring their options. Same thing with Syria, Egypt, North Korea, etc.
It wouldn't surprise me in the least. It is clear that humiliation is a key part of Putin's policy. Last week, he waited for Biden's arrival in Lithuania before making verbal advances towards Estonia. All Biden did was offer silent assurances to the Baltic nations in the face of US inaction towards Ukraine.
“Russian brute force is a jarring diversion from Obamas second-term agenda of combating climate change...”
That pretty much sums it all up, doesn’t it? This administration is so far out of its depth, it’s tragic.
You mean he hasn’t??!
I would love to see obama booed off the stage....and his TelePrompTer too!
All BO wants to do is force other countries to accept gays and gay marriage. That seems to be the only thing he ever talks about.
I still think Putin has the goods on BO. That’s what happens when the press refuses to vet their Messiah. Blackmail. Putin knows where he was born and BO knows it. Putin knows he’s gay and will use it against him. However, being gay in America is the be all, end all right now. Seems like BO would go ahead and come out of the closet. The media would never stop fawning over him.
And he probably got them from Snowden.
“Chicago Jesus” LOL!
Am I seeing that right resident Obama? He is not shaken he is gleeful that it is happening and he will add anymore fuel to the fire if at all possible. What a way to get back at Europe the hotbed of Europe Colonialism in Africa and Indonesia.
Sock puppets, in a socialist fascist kabuki. “I see a bad moon a’rising, looks like troubles on the way”...
I bet Putin, MI5, Mossad, Deuxieme Bureau et al all know the truth, it’s their job to do so. It’ll come out if/when it suits their interests for it to do so.
I see what you did there. :)
It's an ill wind that blows no one good.
Obama just responded, he’s going after Kony again.
Putin might try his next step while Obama is there just to make him look more insignificant.
Oh that did it. Look for the Europeans to hide all their valuables and start preparing their exit strategies. WWIII is on the way!
We live in a different world???????????? Not to me. I never thought that all those communist leaders just disappeared overnight and forgot all about their desire for power.
So Russia was in trouble, they acted nice, we helped, and now they are back on their feet and up to old tricks. Who is suprised???
I’d say though that it is high time for Europe to fund their own defenses, though. Tired of paying for their protection.
