In a question and answer session at Stanford Center at Peking University in Beijing, China, First Lady Michelle Obama said that sometimes one needs to do things she's uncomfortable with. She made the comments in response to a question about studying abroad.
"For me, I prefer to -- the relationship -- the commerce relationship between -- and the future. So in this program, I think I cannot only learn about the language, the American cultures, but also I can take some courses on this field. So in this way, I cannot promote myself on this field, but also, what is most important I think is to learn -- to understand -- to make a better understanding on the United States cultureand people.
And I think its really important for people, especially young generation, to have some time to go abroad, to live and study there so in this way they can build a deeper understanding with each other," said a graduate student at Peking University.
The first lady responded, "Excellent. And one thing that you pointed out that I think its important to consider is not letting fear be your guide. Andthats oftentimes what holds many young people back from doing fabulous things.
Lets take my husband, for example. He has dragged me kicking and screaming into things that I wanted no parts of. (Laughter.) And a lot of it was because of fear -- the fear of making mistakes, the fear of not knowing, the fear of uncertainty, the fear of leaving your comfort zone.
And were living in a world where we can no longer afford to let fear keep us apart, because the truth -- what I have learned, coming from the background I come from -- I grew up in a little apartment on the South Side of Chicago. My parents didnt get a chance to go to college, but they poured everything they had into me. And no one could have envisioned that a kid like me would be sitting here, having given a speech at Peking University as the First Lady of the United States.
But easily, fear could have blocked me at every turn. So I want all of the young people around the world to operate with the freedom that we have all fought for -- the freedom to explore the world, to learn about new cultures, to try hard things, to make mistakes. And I know parents want you to be perfect because we want you to be safe -- (laughter) -- but life is about making mistakes, and maybe saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, and learning that you recover from even some of your worst mistakes, so that that fear doesnt keep you from being as excellent as you can be.
And thats what I think study abroad -- its that first step of leaving your country, speaking another language, having it come out of your voice, your lips, and having someone here actually understand you. And you think, well, that wasnt that bad.
So I want you -- first of all, I just want to applaud you all for being that brave, and for being a role model to other young people of what the world needs in you as leaders. So dont be afraid. Start with your parents.
Michelle Obama is in China with her mother and daughters to talk about education.
It is not Obama, It is a Chinese grad student trying to speak English.
Minor correction was needed, fixed it in bold lettering!
“The poorest, most uneducated Chinese person would undoubtedly speak better English.”
Actually, no. The incomprehsible quote in question is a Chinese Graduate student speaking in English.
***Barack ‘Has Dragged Me Kicking and Screaming Into Things that I Wanted No Parts Of’***
Oh nasty! That’s just TMI!!

After this reply in a Q & A session by our Harvard educated and esteemed first lady I would say that in retrospect the reply by Miss Teen South Carolina 2007 under the circumstances was understandable: "I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, uh, people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future"
Will Michelle's brain farts go viral???
Jiminy Glick eating a donut, ‘yes, good, I,....but now I do them orally’.
I don’t think either Shrillery or the Mooch are stupid. They and they’re kind are achieving they’re goals at a very rapid rate. The intentional destruction they have wrought on our country could not have been done by stupid people. They have achieved probably 90% of what they wanted to do under this _resident and are pushing the last 10% before he tries for another term.
And interestingly, this trip was billed as not official, as a private citizen’s journey, yet she’s speaking “as the First Lady of the United States”. Certainly shines a light on the lie/farce/fraud of this trip.
That horsey shirt should be worn at the Kentucky Derby or a polo match not on a state visit. Am I being too picky?
Spot on.!!
It’s called “having your cake, and eating it too.”
When even this type of hypocrisy is challenged, then it’s back to the old standard, “....you’re a racist.”
If she is paying homage to the Year of the Horse she’s two for two.

Those are the words of the questioner struggling in English.
It is not Michelle Obama.
Eh. We are living a nightmare.
And for many low-information voters, the only thing that is important is American Idol and Keeping up the with Kardashians.
Shes every bit as eloquent as O
It stands to reason.
Mochelle couldn’t wed another wife , but O.
