#7 The Monkees: ValleriDonnie Kirshner had called Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart and asked them for a song with a girls name. The duo told Kirshner that they had one ready, which they did not, and wrote it on the way to Kirshners office. They were to produce this song in the studio.

I have a great appreciation for the artistry of Paul Williams.
To: AZamericonnie
Then you probably loved the two week retrospective I did a few years ago of his music. They ran a documentary about him on HBO last year, and it was eye-opening.

ROCKUMENTARY: MARCH 22, 1968
THE FIRST RELEASE The Will-O-Bees: Make Your Own Kind of MusicBarry Mann and wife Cynthia Weil of the Brill Building, whose songbook I covered a few years ago, wrote this tune for the little folk-rock band whom I covered last week. Just like Shades of Gray, this new tune would end up serving another purpose, that being a release by Cass Elliot a year later when the Mamas and the Papas broke up. This is the original.

Thats it for tonight. Tomorrow night, its the second part of 1968. Cue the Rockumentary theme!

Good evening, Mac...*HUGS*...how were your commutes today?
Looks like spring just might be coming to just about everywhere just now.
Having a lot of fun with my sister here. 5 appointments taken care of in 2 days, all majors, so now we can kind of kick back and whittle down the list of stuff we hope to do while she is here.

Good gads sweetie you girls have been busy getting stuff done!
Are you all having a blast together? Lot’s of laughs?
This weekend couldn’t come fast enough for me.
I plan on getting some projects I’ve started done, some shopping & some REST! LOL

In the Dionne song, did you notice how Burt Bacharach plays with the overall 6/8 time signature by interspersing them with bars of two? He had a great gift with rhythm.
I wish that Paul Williams documentary had been shown around the time I did his songbook. There was so much wonderful information I gleaned from it that was not available from other sources. It also elevated my opinion of him by several notches. My great favorite among his songs:
