Obamacare patients are discovering that many doctors, hospitals, and top cancer centers do not accept the plans they purchased.
"It's so frustrating," Terri Durheim of Enid, Okla.,told CNN. "It's not doing me a lot of good."
Durheim is not alone. Obamacare's so-called "narrow networks" are designed to limit customer choices to push patients into cheaper choices in an effort to control costs. Earlier this year Washington Post health writer Sarah Kliffwarned that "Obamacare's narrow networks are going to make people furious – but they might control costs." A McKinsey and Co. study finds that more than one in three (38%) Obamacare plans permit patients to select from just 30% of the largest 20 hospitals in their geographic region.
For patients like Durheim, the reality of Obamacare's slender options is forcing hard choices. Her son's serious heart condition means she needs a pediatric cardiologist nearby. However, the nearest doctor her Obamacare plan covers is over an hour away.
"Obviously we'd have to pay out of pocket and go here in town, but that defeats the purpose of insurance," says Durheim.
Cancer patients are also waking up to the realities of Obamacare's narrow networks. According to an Associated Press analysis, only four of 19 nationally recognized comprehensive cancer centers offer Obamacare patients access to their facilities through all insurance plans in their state Obamacare exchanges.

Sooner or later a man or woman will lose a spouse or a child to these inanities. That person will go home, secure some weapon, and go bureaucrat hunting, and hunt until they can no longer stand.
If I understand right, you can get a wide-spread policy covering all doctors if you want to pay the monthly premium.
The problem here is that people want the best insurance policy - but they want to pay the prices related to the worst policies. You can’t have it both ways and pay the cheapest price possible and get the widest covering policy possible.
In a similar fashion, but in the Medicare arena (instead), when I was looking at Medigap policies, I knew I wasn’t going to pick up a “Plan F” policy for the price of the other plans, which come very cheap. I expected to pay more for the “complete” policy.
You want more — THEN — you pay more. It’s that simple. Obamacare did not change the financial dynamics for how much policies will cost from the insurance company that underwrites the policy. You’re going to pay more if you want more.
From what I’ve read, there’s a little more to it. The premiums for “good” Obamacare coverage are far too high. It’s not a case of proper management for many, it’s a case of “Oh my gosh! How do they expect anyone to pay that much per month? That’s twice the rate of my old insurance and it covers less!” The “Gold” plans have stunned many, who’d like the coverage but never imagined they’d ever have to pay that much when their old private plan was comparable but affordable. I’ve read so many posts which say that people found that their prior levels of care were extremly high and had to settle for the cheapest, Bronze, just to have insurance at all.

I'm just shaking my head here. You're usually so smart. People all over the country are finding their premiums skyrocketing and their deductibles completely insane. I know it's hard to believe, but this is happening. All over.

The better quality health care plans probably will keep disappearing — or just get more and more unaffordable. The idea is that you don’t deserve such good health care when there are people with less. Your willingness or desire even to pay for what you want is just a sign that you are over- privileged and need to have your excess, unjustified wealth ( which obama has already told you you didn’t create) redistributed to those innocently disadvantaged by society. Get with the program! Do we have to send you to a Reeducation Camp? This is the new, progressivist Transformed AmerikaSSR enroute to becoming the next Islamic Republic as part of the new World Muslim Caliphate. Meanwhile, stop your bitching about our replacing your board- certified physician specialist with a nice nurses’ aide.

Obamacare’s coverage mandates increased costs to insurance companies. They’ve responded by narrowing provider networks to avoid increasing prices. So, for the same price as the policy many had pre-Obama, they can now only obtain coverage that narrows their choice of providers.
While the economics of the insurance industry are as you described them, government mandates have now changed the product they’re allowed to sell and for the average consumer that nets out to poorer coverage for the same price. Very few people, for example, would willingly trade losing access to a quality hospital or specialist practice in return for an increase of their lifetime maximum from several million dollars to unlimited, but that’s the trade the government has made for them.
My Mom’s medical bills increased due to Medicare Part B not covering what they use to.

To be clear, Obama stole $700 billion from Medicare Part B to pay for his utopian death panel.
I have friends who are now confused about their coverage under Medicare.
What was once covered is no longer covered.
The out of pocket costs have also risen for drugs, Dr. visits and equipment to aid in their quality of life.

Costing me plenty of money to fix this and now my brothers and sisters will be contributing every month, so she can live in her home and have decent meals.

Soon healthcare for the masses will be reduced to waiting for hours at some seedy government clinic for a 10 minute visit with a nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant. Seeing a doctor will mean waiting weeks and seeing a specialist more waiting still unless you are denied specialist care by Obamacare rationing. However, for members of Congress and other government officials who have exempted themselves from Obamacare they will be getting red carpet treatment at the Mayo Clinic or other top medical centers.
