Toyota will pay a record settlement of more than $1.2 billion to resolve a federal investigation into its disclosure of deadly safety flaws that caused vehicles to suddenly accelerate, Attorney General Eric Holder announced Wednesday morning while laying out a blistering critique of the giant automaker’s actions. The settlement will allow Toyota to avoid criminal prosecution. The sudden acceleration problem, which was linked to faulty floor mats and accelerator pedals, resulted in the recall of more than 9 million cars worldwide and was tied to 37 deaths.

Toyota buyers will pay a premium to cover this extortion. Holder and Obama are hoping this will make GM products more attractive in relative terms. What they don’t understand is that Government Motors is being boycotted for ethical reasons, to a large extent by people who can’t be bought off for a hundred or so a vehicle. There is no such thing as a fine on business, just a fine on customers of a business.
Holder want ALL CARS TO BE LESS SAFE!

Jesse Jackson told Eric how easy it was to shake down Toyota.
Toyota killed fewer people with defective cars than Holder killed with Fast and Furious.

Eat your heart out, Jesse Jackson! You only could shake down Coca Cola for a few million in your hey-day. Eric The Red Holder can shake down corporations for billions. He’s even better at blackmail than NY’s Attorney General. Businesses are their cash cows, because businesses will pay big bucks to Democrat campaigns to keep the Chicago thugocracy from going after them next.
Meanwhile, the investigation into GM ignition failures -estimated to have killed as many as 300 people - goes virtually unreported. GM knew about the defect, could have replaced the part for just a few dollars, but did no recall or announcement. Don’t expect to hear from Holder on that one!

Holder is tougher on our friends than Obama is on enemies but unlike Toyota , Putin and other rogue leaders mock Obama and he has to take it.
At least some of the Toyota failures were faked for money, although there were a total of 31 accidents and 12 deaths possibly linked to the failure. All of the GM failures were real, leading to more deaths than Toyota, and they may not all have been identified. The difference is connections. America has turned into Animal Farm, where “Some animals are more equal than others.”
I didn’t read the article here, because it’s Politico, but IIRC Toyota was exonerated on the acceleration issue a couple of years ago. I seem to remember it was operator oafishness.
Wonder when they’re going to shake down GM.

These shakedowns of major American companies, financia institutions and major banks are how Obama and his thug regime are financing their failed Obamacare plan. As they will not be able to generate enough money from the peons to allow their health plan to succeed, they are strong arming businesses via exorbitant fines to be able to float Obamacare through its failed attempts to get off the ground. All Obama needs to do is keep Obamacare financed through his last 3 years in office, and then he is outta there and the rest of us will be left holding the bag.

My Toyota was made in Japan. It depends upon which model you purchase.
It’s not just the fine, either. There were three seperate (done at different times) recalls on my Toy. One to replace the accelerator pedal, one to replace the driver side floormat, and one last month to reprogram the computer to prevent acceleration (it’s fly by wire) if the brakes are applied.
I’d wager the recalls cost them big yen!
