Former Rep. Ron Paul says that Americas reaction to Crimeas vote to secede from Ukraine should be,so what?
Why does the U.S. care which flag will be hoisted on a small piece of land thousands of miles away? the Texas Republican and libertarian icon wrote in a USA Today op-ed Monday.
...Over the weekend, Crimeans voted to secede from Ukraine and join Russia, which the Russian government has moved to approve. American politicians have called the vote a sham and the administration has said it does not recognize the results of the vote, placing sanctions on some Russian officials in response.
Ron Paul said at least three other regions, Catalonia, Scotland and Venice, are similarly seeking to leave their countries, and the U.S. and Europe should allow events to proceed uninterrupted there as well as Crimea, saying self-determination is a centerpiece of international law.
Paul said the minimal sanctions from the White House is all the global economy can afford, and it is the global economy that promotes peace, not intervention.

A cartoon reference ..and I think you pooped your pampers.
Dude, whatever you’re smokin, send me some ..
Russia isn’t Germany. The Soviet union fought with allied forces to defeat Germany after Germany invaded the USSR.
I cannot thank you enough for this.
How soon we forget!!!
Bush and Putin: Best of friends
"At the end of their first summit meeting in Slovenia Mr Bush described Mr Putin as a straightforward and trustworthy man. The Russian leader said he regarded the US as a partner."
How much we have lost.
We value respect and intelligent discussion. Name calling really is just a way to make yourself look foolish and make others avoid you. Good luck.
Semantic is exactly correct though.
See, that is one specific reason why we should not tax Americans to represent someone else: We never know what issues the Americans might have with who is being represented.
Because the United States had learned, at the beginning of the 20th century, that war is incredibly destructive and terrible, and senior, responsible people (like Pres. McKinley) who had seen the South during and after the Civil War (in 1870, Shelby Foote told us on Ken Burns's documentary, 20% of the state budget of Mississippi went for prosthesis) decided that it would be worth a lot to us, never ever again to see a major war fought on our territory.
Capiche?
Now Ron Paul has unlearned not only that lesson -- through his bloodymindedness, which will NOT be convinced or swayed -- but also the lesson of the 1930's: Give people like Hitler and Stalin pieces of Poland, the Ruhr, and Czechoslovakia, and sooner or later they'll come to see you.
Oh, come on. Hitler wished he were Putin. Putin the thermonuclear-armed KGB spook, Putin the goon who showed up at a "meeting with ordinary Russians" to ask President Reagan, then touring Russia, hostile questions and join in the jeering and hectoring.
Putin the murdering Osobist slug, who especially likes to kill journalists on their own front porches.
How ya doin' Vlad, ol' buddy? Kill anyone today?
Zurab Tsereteli is a Georgian name. Ironic.
When has America locked on to civilian targets like that?
I don't agree that you can say what Putin has done means he will take over all of Europe and then try to take us too. listing here
It is a faulty conclusion to reach - because Putin has annexed Crimea, and a few other places before that, that he now will go on to invade all of the former USSR countries, etc etc etc.
You are correct!! Fascinating..
You a “third secretary” down at the Russian embassy? Putin putting trolls on FR now?
It worked in Japan and Germany, but not much of anywhere else. But then, we made sure the enemy was totally defeated before even trying to make nice which we have not done since then.
Putin, who was invited to visit George Bush at his ranch in Texas and had a great time.
Only if you ascribe to the definition of left vs. right as continuously pushed by leftists. I prefer the alternative view of the political spectrum more appropriate to America and its competing ideologies than the old euro-centric perspective, wherein left is totalitarianism/statism/big-government/collectivist and right is freedom/individualist/small-government/small-l-libertarianism/anarchy. In that case, communism and fascism are both hard left ideologies.
Ditto Tojo -- what do we care about what he does to the Chinese?
Past Performance is Not Necessarily Indicative of Future Results.
How about Anna Politkovskaya and Irina Kabanova? They have a great time, too?
Oh, wait -- they're dead.
