I did indeed - but among most Chicagoans, if you’re second generation, and sometimes beyond, that’s pretty much how you refer to each other. Just ask the folks from Beverly and Mount Greenwood who were at the South Side Irish parade last weekend.

Anyway, Poland has had a fascinating history. They’ve been over-run from every direction and keep coming back. They destroyed the Teutonic Knights with an inferior cavalry and a bunch of villagers carrying wooden spears. I recently finished reading “Poland” by James Michener. Good reading.

They stopped the Turks at Vienna, and more recently tried to grab a piece of the newly-created Soviet Union in 1920.

The Battle of the Ice on April 5, 1242, at Lake Peipus was a pivotal point for their defeat and in all history. The Russian Orthodox Christians defeated these monsters in 1242 ...thankfully.
