Protestors chanting pro-gay slogans and advocating for equal rights could be heard along Fifth Ave. as the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade proceeded through Manhattan. Mayor Bill de Blasio and other politicians skipped attending the festivity after organizers said gay groups were not allowed to carry gay-friendly signs or openly identify as LGBT. That caused beer brands Guinness and Heineken to drop their sponsorship of the event.
Not all Irish eyes were smiling Monday as the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicked off in midtown Manhattan amid a protest over participants carrying pro-gay signs.
Half a city block was crowded with people waving signs that said “NYPD SHAME” and “Bigotry shouldn’t be paraded.”
A large rainbow flag stretched across the sidewalk with the words “Boycott Homophobia” written on it.
Bagpipers in plaid kilts strove to be heard above the chants of “Cops out, Queers in,” as the procession moved past.
Bill de Blasio was conspicuously absent from the front of the parade — the first time in 20 years the city’s mayor didn’t participate.
Organizers of the parade, the longest-running in city history, say that gay groups can march but are not allowed to carry gay-friendly signs or openly identify themselves as LGBT.

I can tell you about the church and also about the Irish tradition. I can even tell you about this guy. And you are correct in you logical assumptions

The gays who truly revere him are celibate The militant gays are like any other persecutor of the faith going back to its foundation and will always be present and tormenting here on earth
The parade organizers know this. The practicing Irish Catholics know about the enemy. They don’t think about the daily news’ take on it nor a little rain
But this is about the opposite of honoring st Patrick. It’s about wanting the church to act like a democracy and change its mind on this. At worst it’s persecution. The Catholics are no strangers to it. Nor was st Patrick

This is a complex scene. It’s a relatively few loud mouths who are clamoring for this kind of attention. Because most homos are weak willed, they go along with the loud mouths.
It’s pan-Christian in concern; St. Patrick did his thing well before the Orthodox/Catholic split.

Gays were invited to attend as part of the entire crowd who are ultimately celebrating a Saint - and beer. But it seems some gays are more exhibitionists and don't want to be part of the ‘normal’ crowd. Since when are sexual exhibitionists entitled to special rights to display genitalia during religious or state holidays??

Companies hate to be controversial...Unfortunately today, excluding gays is what is considered controversial, compared to even 10 years ago, when including them would have been controversial.

Yes, it's trending that way. Gay Mardi Gras parades, gay St. Patrick's Day parades, gay Macy's Parade, gay Rose Bowl Parade, etc. etc., etc.
When that's all the public sees, on the streets, on television, in the movies - why, it's "normal".

Question: why haven't they demanded to get a gay float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, where they can parade naked in 30 degree November weather on national television?
