Raining on their parade: Fight over rights of gays to march openly on St. Patrick's Day dampens mood

Protestors chanting pro-gay slogans and advocating for equal rights could be heard along Fifth Ave. as the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade proceeded through Manhattan. Mayor Bill de Blasio and other politicians skipped attending the festivity after organizers said gay groups were not allowed to carry gay-friendly signs or openly identify as LGBT. That caused beer brands Guinness and Heineken to drop their sponsorship of the event.

Not all Irish eyes were smiling Monday as the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicked off in midtown Manhattan amid a protest over participants carrying pro-gay signs.

Half a city block was crowded with people waving signs that said “NYPD SHAME” and “Bigotry shouldn’t be paraded.”

A large rainbow flag stretched across the sidewalk with the words “Boycott Homophobia” written on it.

Bagpipers in plaid kilts strove to be heard above the chants of “Cops out, Queers in,” as the procession moved past.

Bill de Blasio was conspicuously absent from the front of the parade — the first time in 20 years the city’s mayor didn’t participate.

Organizers of the parade, the longest-running in city history, say that gay groups can march but are not allowed to carry gay-friendly signs or openly identify themselves as LGBT.

The next major sodomy parade in San Fransico someone should enter a Bible-themed float. Then, just sit back and watch what happens next.

So homos cant march in a parade about Irish heritage without acting like perverts and waving around those stupid rainbow flags?

But dont worry, they just want to be “left alone”.

Let the queers join the parade. They can show off their big inflatable penis floats and prance around with naked butt chaps. Fine with me.

Nobody will attend, people will shun it and we don’t have to have a stupid parade next year.

Nobody can throw a turd in life’s punch bowl like the turd burglars.

I don’t know much about Roman Catholic religion, but wasn’t this guy a bishop or something?

And thus opposed to sodomy?

Odd that a group he would condemn would want to celebrate him.

They should shut down these parades. It’s not about St. Patrick, the Irish heritage or anything like that.

It’s all a political grabdstand to showcase Queer Rights. Sides have been taken for and against Faggotry on Parade and if in fact the Sodomites want to claim St. Patrick’s Day as their own...

Ignore it

A parade costs money. The organizers paid for their parade, it’s their platform.

Any other group can do the same and have their own platform.

There is no justification for others to force themselves onto another’s platform. They are hijacking this platform because it attracts a larger audience.

And beer companies should keep their nose out of it and just sell beer.

If someone’s sexual practices are a supposed to be a private matter,

why do I have to keep hearing about them?

Just so we’re all clear on this issue. The parade excludes no one. You cannot march under a pro voucher banner, an anti war banner, or a stop global warming banner, and if you’re gay, you certainly CAN march......with your County, or the Hibernians, or your college or University. The organizers just don’t care to know who you’re sleeping with.

RE: I don’t know much about Roman Catholic religion, but wasn’t this guy a bishop or something?

St. Patrick (who was not Irish) was one of the greatest missionaries in the history of Christianity. His work in Ireland for 30 years, converted the pagan Isle into a majority Christian country.

According to this article:

http://townhall.com/columnists/jerrynewcombe/2014/03/12/in-remembrance-of-a-true-hero-of-the-faithst-patrick-n1808037/page/full

We live in a time of the anti-hero. Too often, the good guys are the bad guys and vice versa. Celebrities are often held up as heroes, until we learn too much about them.

But to see a true hero, look at the real St. Patrick, who has a day dedicated in his honor. Unfortunately, many people only observe his holiday, March 17, by drinking themselves silly, which is totally contrary to the spirit of the man who Christianized Ireland.

In fact, Patrick shows what God can do through someone who is committed fully to Him.

Thomas Cahill, author of the book, How the Irish Saved Civilization: The Untold Story of Ireland’s Heroic Role from the Fall of Rome to the Rise of Medieval Europe, notes that Patrick and the Irish came at the moment of a cultural cliff-hanger and played a key role in helping to save civilization.

In the 5th century, barbarians overran the Roman Empire-—which was the repository of much of Western civilization-—until it finally collapsed. Meanwhile, through the missionary work of Patrick (387-461), the gospel was brought to Ireland; and numerous men became monks as a result, who meticulously copied manuscripts of the Bible and of many of the writings of antiquity.

Cahill writes: “For, as the Roman Empire fell, as all through Europe matted, unwashed barbarians descended on the Roman cities, looting artifacts and burning books, the Irish, who were just learning to read and write, took up the great labor of copying all of Western literature-—everything they could lay their hands on.”

He notes, “These scribes then served as conduits through which the Greco-Roman and Judeo-Christian cultures were transmitted to the tribes of Europe, newly settled amid the rubble and ruined vineyards of the civilization they had overwhelmed.”

Cahill adds, “Without this Service of the Scribes, everything that happened subsequently would have been unthinkable. Without the Mission of the Irish Monks, who single-handedly refounded European civilization throughout the continent in the bays and valleys of their exile, the world that came after then would have been an entirely different one-—a world without books. And our own world would never have come to be.”

The man at the center of all this was St. Patrick.

I try to live and let live but these guys are NOT NORMAL and trying to force us to accept them as such makes me ill.
