As the White House scrambles to get people signed up for health insurance before the March 31 deadline, many uninsured Americans say they are still planning to take their chances and remain without coverage.
A new study by Bankrate.com shows that about one third of uninsured Americans are going to remain without coverage and opt to pay the penalty.
The survey results suggest that the administrations outreach to uninsured people may be falling short, with more than half of people without insurance unaware of the March 31 deadlineand even more unaware of subsidies that could make their policies more affordable.
Bankrate surveyed 3,005 people and found that 41 percent of those who were uninsured said they plan to stay uninsured because they think that health insurance is too costly. Meanwhile, about 70 percent said they were unaware of subsidies available under the new law that could make their health plans more affordable.

The bottom line is a lot of people, most the young, do not want to dish out any of their Starbucks and clubbing money for health insurance.
Even with “subsidies”, they wouldn’t actually be buying insurance in the form they expect it to be.
With a 5k deductible, they’d be out of pocket for most of the year anyway.
If this meant that 2/3 of the uninsured would sign up, then that would make the program a huge success. So far I think the results have been dramatically short of the hurdle in the headline of this story.
How about “THEY JUST DON’T WANT ANY PART OF OBAMACARE- LAW OR NO LAW”
Remember, this is a survey result that says 33% will not sign up. Real world results, counting those that won’t/can’t pay and those lying on the survey will drive this above 50%.
1/3?! I’d put the numbers more in the 7/8’s range. If those numbers were loated out of the 0 administration to use the bandwagon philosophy it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
That sounds like something Obama would say. The point is that Obamacare is a bad deal for the young and healthy who are expected to pay for the old and the sick. The inflated insurance costs with high deductibles is not a good deal. And if the young come down some serious illness, they can always sign up for coverage since preexisting conditions no longer prevent them for getting covered or paying higher premiums.
Houston had a huge sign-up program which they covered on the news last night. Room full of minorities. Two women interviewed were going on about how easy it was to get coverage, first coverage they had ever had, one said she didn’t realize it wasn’t going to cost her anything, etc. etc. Giving away the farm.
Meanwhile, even more of the people who HAD a workable health insurance plan that has now been deemed “inadequate” are being added to the rolls of the uninsured, than are signing up with the provided insurers permitted to operate under the auspices of the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010”.
Result, net LOSS of numbers of insured under the provisions of the “Obamacare” or “Democratcare” law (which is NOT being enforced to its full extent).
I am not saying the young should be required to pay for the old. I just remember being that young.

Can’t say that I blame them, really..................
"the young" AKA...."The Young Immortals"
somehow I doubt if their IRS “penalties” are much above ZERO given their tax brackets
Or is the IRS wing of obamacare gonna deduct a “shared responsibility fee” from their (un)earned income and child credits?
Remember the HMO programs that were getting such a big push years ago? And how everybody hated them?
The “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010” is pushing for the biggest HMO’s the world has ever seen. Didn’t make any friends then, and not making any friends now.
When they voted for him they thought it was gonna be FREE!
none of them have to. hardship waiver. good til 2016.
