Mystery Malaysia flight may have been hundreds of miles off course (CNN Breaking)

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was hundreds of miles off course, traveling in the opposite direction from its original destination and had stopped sending identifying transponder codes before it disappeared, a senior Malaysian Air Force official told CNN Tuesday.

If correct, these are ominous signs that could call into question whether someone in the cockpit might have deliberately steered the plane away from its intended destination, a former U.S. aviation investigator said.

"This kind of deviation in course is simply inexplicable," said Paul Goelz, former managing director of the National Transportation Safety Board.

(snip) The Malaysian Air Force lost track of the plane over Pulau Perak, a tiny island in the Straits of Malacca -- many hundreds of miles from the usual flight path for aircraft traveling between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing, the official said.

Just the idea that it was terrorism is enough. Look at how people are reacting to this situation and all without having to claim any credit. Also, a terrorist group may want to “hide and watch” to observe reactions and take notes for future operations.

Can be enabled or disabled from the cockpit.

“This is so weird. If they tracked the plane on radar to the Straits of Malacca, why are they still looking in the Gulf of Siam?”

Had the same thought. They’ve had this info for days and yet allowed the search to be conducted in what they had a strong suspicion (our outright direct knowledge) to be the wrong part of the ocean.

Strange. I’m beginning to think that something very weird happened hear and the Malays are trying to figure out how to release it to the public as others have started to speculate.

There are easier ways to get a plane. You could just buy one.

Both pilots have moslem names.

Look it up.

As an example, Nidal Hasan was a US army Major before he ‘suddenly’ began screaming in Arabic and massacred Fort Hood.

Moslems aren’t serial killers until they are.

Me too. The simplest explanation is usually the closest to reality.

Changing course is inexplicable? Seems consistent with terrorist takeover or rogue pilots stealing the plane ... or ... perhaps less likely ...massive failure with need to turn around and find nearest landing strip and perhaps electrical failure disabling transponder and ground / air communications.

“yes- but you can now connect to the internet from 35K feet for $3/half hour so surely one of the 200 people could’ve sent an email...”

Malaysian only offers inflight internet on its new A-380’s.

Somewhere there’s

A missing plane

And the searching

Was all in vain

That’s because

It’s now a missile

With a payload

That’s plenty fissile

This would be off the books so to speak. That is a huge coup for any terrorist who could arrange it.

No offense, but those posts are annoying on a subject which has ended so tragically for so many.

Starting to look more like a hijacking than not. The question remains, where is it? Did it crash or did it land on some remote airfield?

Off the books... on the books.. who cares? Once you’re up in the air, and repainted, how is anyone going to know if you’re on the books or off the books?

But again this begs the question: if they’ve known this all along then why have they allowed the search off Vietnam to go on?

It is eerily similar to the Payne Stewart incident.

Sounds like something from a Tom Clancy novel. But what of the passengers? Were they all executed or are they being held somewhere?
