Rand Paul wins 2014 CPAC straw poll, Ted Cruz finishes a distant second
The Associated Press ^ | 03-08-2014 | Stephen Dinan

Sen. Rand Paul demolished his competition in the 2014 Washington Times/CPAC presidential preference straw poll on Saturday, winning 31 percent of the vote -- nearly three times the total of second-place Sen. Ted Cruz.

Mr. Cruz's 11 percent was still a big improvement for the freshman senator, who won just 4 percent in last year's straw poll. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson was third with 9 percent and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was fourth with 8 percent in results that signal growing discontent with the GOP establishment in Washington.

Indeed, CPAC voters now have an unfavorable view of Republicans in Congress, with 51 percent saying they disapprove of the job the GOP is doing on Capitol Hill. Just last year the GOP had a 54 percent approval rating, and in 2012 they held a 70 percent approval rating.

So what is your point?

Going on and on about foreign countries that have nothing to do with us, and that are so strict that they can forbid chewing gum to the people they rule, what does that have to do with anything related to the GOP primary?

Being born to an American citizen temporarily living in Canada, Cruz is every bit the natural born American citizen I am and very definitely a constitutional conservative, backing it up with several years of experience defending that great document in court... and winning. He’s more of a patriotic Reagan conservative than most of the GOPers running and I mean conservative on ALL issues including borders, life, family, peace through superior firepower and all the rest. You don’t have to guess where Cruz stood yesterday or today or will stand tomorrow on constitutional issues.

Go, Ted, GO!!

Did Rand really say ObamaCare is not able to be repealed?

He’s weak on RKBA. That alone is a non-starter for me.

Carson is pro-gun control.

Not as much as a Dem, but no good for a POTUS pick either. Ask Bob Dole how his support of the Brady bill worked for him...

You Obama lovers kill me. You find that having a one term Senator did so well the last 8 years (when Obama is done) that you want another novice in the White House. How stupid are you guys?

I heard Rand Paul on the Greta Van Sustern show yesterday and I wondered what he was doing because all he sounded like was someone who stoode for nothing and was trying to convince the young voters at CPAC that he was one of them, not part of the older conservatives.

Rand Paul said nothing that would make me vote for him.

You mean like being pro-life, pro-RKBA, enforced borders, sane fiscal policy, etc?

Or did you expect to pick up everything about him in one short interview?

So the Ron Paul cultists turned out for Rand.

They will do everything they can.
I will not vote for him.

Wow, only a cowardly, anti-conservative troll takes clandestine hits against the conservatives.

By the way your fellow libertarian troll plainshame, has already been zotted.

You troll types seem confused about what trolling is.

I supported Paul in his senate primary against Trey Grayson, but Paul seems to have a hidden self, a hidden agenda, he isn’t trustworthy.

He should remain in his senate seat, but not be taken seriously for the presidency.

The only thing I can fault with internet polls is that with most people can vote more than once.

But I do agree with you, the GOP was in bad shape in 2012. I fear it still is.

Big government is the greatest POLITICAL problem facing our country. Our Constitution doesn't protect from moral and spiritual malaise, only from governmental tyranny. If you wait for something else to happen before you start fighting for your freedom, you may not have any freedom left to fight for.

Of course the moral and spiritual issues of the American People underlie our malaise, but those issue aren't solved with politics - never have and never will. They are solved by individual repentance. The answer will never be whatever politician is put in office. The answer will always be whether the American People are willing to take the reigns of their lives and their nation once again. The answer here is for politicians and the government to once again fear the people, not the other way around. Freedom is when government fears the people and tyranny is when the people fear the government. And unaccountable politicians will ALWAYS be corrupt not matter how much you love them or think they're great.

So it's a political battle for freedom and a spiritual and moral battle for the hearts and minds of the American People. The spiritual battle will ultimately determine the political battle but they are not the same issues though they affect each other. And if we wait for the American People to repent and turn to God before fighting for our freedoms it may be too late. It is a simultaneous war on both fronts.

Freedom is the political issue, pure and simple. A spiritual awakening and repentance toward God is the moral and individual issue. Getting those two issues mixed up could also be fatal. Our founders were careful not to do so.

Thanks for swallowing the bait!

“Rand Paul is not a libertarian.”

OK, then he is just another politician.

His stances on gay marriage, immigration, foreign policy, and nothing on the national defense (the most important issue in my view) don't make him a libertarian in your view.

He is not a Conservative.

Libertarians have been swarming over the carcass of a dead conservative GOP and have effectively resurrected/co opted the beast.

Some Conservatives have fallen for the idea that the budget is the greatest problem facing the USA today and therefore accept the libertarian view that the rest of the world will sing kumbyyaaa and let US government eventually fix the problem.

We are outnumbered worldwide. We are losing the 100 year WOT that our enemy have launched.

Any politician who cannot make America's security first above any other consideration is a fool.

Libertarians whether L or l are fools whether big F or small f not because they are unprincipled but because they don't live in the world as it exists today.
