“Keep in mind, you odds of dying in an auto accident are overwhelmingly higher...about 500% higher.”
I’ve been in maybe a dozen or so auto crashes in my life and walked away from every one. Most airplane crashes are not so minor
I wonder what the stories are about how the passports became stolen.
It’s in Pyongyang. And you know they don’t say nuttin ‘bout nuttin.
Commercial airplane crashes are very rare compared to car crashes.
It is daylight there now. Any update?
Philip Wood’s father, Aubrey, lives near me. Haven’t been over to see him yet.

There was supposed to be a news conference at 9:00AM local time which is 8:00PM EST. We should get updates soon.
That was my first thought this morning. Did you see the names of the pilots? Full on muslim! It seems to be the only thing that fully explains this. I can probably guess the last words heard over the pa system.
Sepang, 9 March 2014: More than 24 hours after the lost of contact with Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, the search and rescue teams are still unable to detect the whereabouts of the missing aircraft. The airline is doing its utmost to provide support to the affected family members, this includes immediate financial aid.
The airline has deployed a team of 94 caregivers consisting of well-trained staff and also Tzu Chi Foundation members to provide emotional support to the families. The airline will also be deploying another set of caregivers to Beijing later today.
Last night, a Malaysia Airlines Senior Management team arrived at Beijing to address the media and met with family members. Families of affected passengers in Kuala Lumpur were also met by the team.
Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines will set up a command center at Kota Bharu, Malaysia or Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam as soon as the location of the aircraft is established and the airline will make the necessary arrangements.
The airline is continuously working with the authorities in providing assistance. In fearing for the worst, a disaster recovery management specialist from Atlanta, USA will be assisting Malaysia Airlines in this crucial time.
A foreign ministry spokesman in Vienna said: “Our embassy got the information that there was an Austrian on board. That was the passenger list from Malaysia Airlines. Our system came back with a note that this is a stolen passport.”
Austrian police had found the man safe at home. The passport was stolen two years ago while he was travelling in Thailand, the spokesman said.
The foreign ministry in Rome said no Italian was on the plane either, despite the inclusion of Maraldi’s name on the list. His mother, Renata Lucchi, told Reuters his passport was lost, presumed stolen, in Thailand in 2013.

To fix prior post: Freescale manufacturing now is in “China, Malaysia, Taiwan and Korea.” Other key owners are private equity majors Carlyle Group, TPG (Texas Pacific Group) and Euro-based Permira.
“Commercial airplane crashes are very rare compared to car crashes.”
If you compare the number of plane flights per day to the auto trips per day, your stats won’t add up. You did reduce the numbers in your reply to “commercial flights”. When you take the overall numbers into account, flying is probably a bit safer , but the survivability of crashes is not even close
No wonder that for all outsiders beyond Asia, the information released by China, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia, is like dealing with the Keystone cops
At least three different intended flight paths are displayed by different news services, and these are several hundred miles apart.
Critical flight duration times are given between 20 minutes and 2 hours before losing track of the aircraft.
If the flight disappeared upon reaching cruising altitude (presumably 36,000) all other data available (FlightAware, etc.) suggests this must have happened 20 minutes after takeoff. This would place debris in the Gulf of Thailand
If the total elapsed time of flight between takeoff and disappearance had been 2 hours (another figure mentioned regularly) the debris must have "landed" in the Gulf of Tonkin.
That is assuming, however that the intended flight path is the easternmost one on the map being shown regularly.
I sure hope the International rescue crews actively seeking the wreckage have more reliable information than what all the western media has presented so far.
Didnt hear about the stolen passports. What is that about?
Someone probably already told you by now. Two of the people on the manifest weren’t on the plane, the Italian and the Austrian. They are fine, but they each had their passport stolen in the last year or so. Hmmm.
Put both of your posts together, and it seems you are both right. The kerosine slicks were gone hours later.
Sounds like a company in dire straights. Wonder how it got in so much trouble.
How about the terminal, was not referring to the flight, though that part of the air travel experience is becoming equally unpleasent.
