MOSCOW Russia signaled for the first time on Friday that it was prepared to annex Crimea, significantly intensifying its confrontation with the West over the political crisis in Ukraine and threatening to undermine a system of respect for national boundaries that has helped keep the peace in Europe and elsewhere for decades.
Leaders of both houses of Russias Parliament said that they would support a vote by Crimeans to break away from Ukraine and become a region of the Russian Federation, ignoring sanctions threats and warnings from the United States and other countries that a vote for secession would violate Ukraines constitution and international law.
Even as tensions flared between Russian and Ukrainian forces in Crimea, the moves by Russia raised the specter of a protracted conflict over the status of Crimea, which Russian forces occupied a week ago, calling into question not only Russias relations with the West but also post-cold-war agreements on the sovereignty of the nations that emerged from the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Bammy and Lurch, ineffective per usual.
They were going to annex Crimea the day they invaded.
Did they think Putin was going to just sit back and watch while Crimea was turned into a vassal of the EU following an illegal coup in Kiev?
The EU “leaders” would probably side with the Russians if that happened. We need to start aiding the Ukrainians ASAP with whatever they need to slow down the Reds, and at the same time start readying our own forces for war.
By sponsoring the overthrow of Ukraine’s elected president by terrorists, Soros, Clinton, and Obama made all of this possible.
Obama stirred this mess up, and then proved incapable of handling the result.
As for handing over a province of a sovereign nation to invaders, the NY Times applauded Clinton when he handed Kosovo over to Albanian drug-smuggling Muslim thugs.
And George W. Bush sealed the deal. And every liberal was delighted!
Why are you pushing pro-Russian propaganda?
Why are you supporting pro-Kenyan propaganda?
Just lay back and enjoy it.
More Russian propaganda.
For the first time?
Where have these people been?
Krushchev ceded Crimea to Ukraine in 1954 or 56. He was, after all, Ukrainian. Up to 1991, Crimea and even Ukraine were under complete control of the Russian-cum-Soviet empire for about 1000 years.
With the collapse of the Soviet Union and the formation of the CIS, Ukraine was allowed to “keep” Crimea, with the implicit understanding that the Crimea would always be under Russian control, for very obvious strategic reasons that even Lurch “Hossface” Kerry might be able to perceive.
With the emergence of the new Imperial Russia, the annexing of Crimea, and even Ukraine, was just a matter of time.
Nothing anybody can do about it, short of a nuclear exchange, primping and posturing by 0bummer and Lurch notwithstanding.
At least it's a change of pace from all the pro-EU, anti-Russia propaganda American media feeds us.

No, Putin has a ‘Launch’ Button.
Obozo has a ‘Hope & Change’ Button....................
“Time for some pipelines to blow if I were Ukrainian”
If the Ukraine did that I could see a full on Russian invasion and occupation of the entire country for economic reasons.
Bingo.
If you read my comment, you will note that I pointed out that Soros, Hillary, and Obama (via the CIA), sponsored, trained, and armed the Ukrainian revolutionaries who overthrew the Ukrainian government.
I did NOT say that it was nice that Putin has moved in and is taking over the country. I DID say that it was Stupid and his pals who set up the situation that enable him to, and even gave him considerable justification.
Typical of Obama to get involved in something like this but lack the brains to do anything when it failed.
As several have pointed out, Ukraine has a large Russian population, and a thousand years of Russian involvement. And Russia relies on Crimea for a warm-water port. The matter is nothing if not complicated.
All I was pointing out, however, is that Obama had a hand in creating this mess, but proved unable to deal with what he and his one-world cronies started.
Your fifth paragraph is highly debatable.
As long as the EU did not try to usurp the nominal independence of Ukraine, Russia would probably have been happy to leave things as they were. The Ukraine provided a buffer.
The Eurocrats are desperate for quick cash to slow down the inevitable collapse of their welfare state, however, so they worked to subvert the Ukrainian government.
Their gamble was foolish. Desperate men do stupid things.
The truth is the truth, even when it makes Russia look no worse than France and Germany.
