COMPTON Reparations for African-Americans who endured 200-plus years of slavery in America will be among the topics featured at the second annual Reparations Day event March 6 in Tragniew Park here, organizers said.
The Rev. Meri Kha Ra of Krst Unity Church and Minister Tony Muhammad of the Nation of Islam will speak during the program, hosted by the Compton National Reparations Day Committee.
The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., also will include live entertainment and student essay contest winners from local area high schools.
Reparations is an internationally recognized principle of payment that a group or nation receives as a result of pain, suffering, damages or death.
The concept of reparations for U.S. slavery has gained momentum in recent years as the Washington, D.C.-based National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America (N'COBRA) has aggressively argued that all beneficiaries of slavery including the U.S. government and corporations should financially compensate the descendants of former slaves.
In 2000, the New York-based Harper's Magazine reported that the United States owes African-Americans more than $100 trillion in reparations.
But the issue of reparations goes far beyond dollars, said Compton event organizer John Peoples.
What is Reparations? Repair. What is repair? Whatever it takes to make us whole, Peoples said. Reparations is not about money.
Tragniew Park is located at 2121 W. Alondra Blvd.

Lol.
Now that “your name is Toby” scene from “Roots” came to mind, only starring zombies.
“Graaagh ur naaaaa!”
“Gurkk. Gukka gikka!”
*whip barely moves, zombie slaver sorta wobbles and drools*
“Tooooograaaa. Ur naaa eh toooooograaAaa.”
Heaven help anyone who ends up in one of these scenes.
Embarrassment for all involved.

I agree that anyone with black skin who has been a slave in America for 200 or more years should get some kind of compensation..
but anyone who has only been a slave for 199 years or less must wait until that magical 200 years mark is reached before applying..
Bingo, the self-appointed black leaders will skim the bulk of it and blame any deficit on Whitey.
Pay them in Confederate money.

Meanwhile what about people who were slaves in America but had white skin ???
I ask because I had an ancestor who was a slave in MASS
Roger Corman, paging Roger Corman.
Beg? Sounds more like DEMANDS!!!! (in case you did not get the emphasis) to me.
(BTW, what do folks like Obama do, pay themselves reparations?)
[for legal precedent, see I'm My Own Grandpa]
Does the income of Black entertainers & sports players count as reparations? What about shakedown artists/politicians?
How many actually endured 200-plus years of slavery in America and are still alive?
There can't be too many of them left.
Slavery ended about 148 years ago.
If they were enslaved for 200 years before that they will now be at least 348 years old.
I say we we can afford to give every living former slave over 300 hundred years old at least $1 million dollars.

They don’t know their history do they ???
Black slaves first arrived in Virginia in 1619...400 years ago...
I’m pretty certain he’d do it too.
“It’s the 1800’s, slavery exists, and everyone is a zombie!”
“Excellent!”
Making it a bmovie would make light of this ridiculous push for organized theft.
Since it would be a Roger Corman flick, there would be some obligatory boobage.
ya....$1 Trillion in Welfare payments since 1965 don’t count, I guess......
uh....how about the quota systems for college entrance?
How about the public sector employee unions?

If they are demanding reparations from their white masters they are going to have trouble collecting...
after the War of Northern Aggression, white Southern former slave owners were wiped out and lost their assets and had nothing with which to start again..
there was nothing left then to pay the slaves or descendants of slaves..
and anything the former owners or their descendants gained later didn’t come from the work of the former slaves but from the white former owners and children’s own efforts..
Where’s the money going to come from ???
They cant sue the US government..
It wasn’t the government that benefitted financially from the unpaid work of the slaves...
and I doubt if the Dred Scott case could be cited as relevant..
And being a Roger Corman zombie flick, it will be traumatic to boot.
“In 2000, the New York-based Harper’s Magazine reported that the United States owes African-Americans more than $100 trillion in reparations.”
I wonder how this figure was calculated?
Whenever someone says “it’s not about money, it is about the money.
Reparations have been paid in full...it’s called welfare!
Harpers can pay whatever they feel is appropriate, but leave the rest of us alone.
