WTF is that?
Wait... what?
Doesn’t make any sense to me either.
Is this a real example? My husband is super good at math and he even said what the heck!
now for a verbal problem:
obamacare is to healthcare as common core is to _______?
this is in grade schools throughout the country. get your hands on some of the books the kids are learning from, if there are any available, because ultimately they want this all done “in the cloud”.
I saw a science book the other day. The emphasis on climate change was very obvious.
insanity
brain melt?
My daughter is a 5th grade teacher. I will ask her about this math question. I am very bad at math but I can do basic math as in the old example.
If I would have had to learn math the “New” way I would have been really doomed.
This is ridiculous it makes my head hurt and I am serious.
This must be the method Obama was taught.
What do you mean?
It makes perfect nonsense to me.
the ends again justify the means. they are re-wiring the brains to think “collectively”
What does the “L-” next to the word “answer” stand for or is this just a random doodle?
What a bizarre way to subtract. It took me about 20 minutes to figure out how and why this process works, but I can think of no reason to actually teach this to children.
I get what there doing..its all add to get the answer..it’s similar to the way computers use to subtract
How does that make you think collectively?
And doesn’t the Old way make you think collectively as in everyone does it the same way?
What the hell will they do with Algebra?
And the sad part is that if they just say “20” they get it wrong because they didn’t do all that other crap that makes no damned sense whatsoever to get to 20.
Thats the only part I get, supposed to be an arrow pointing at the answer.
Where are the 10 sticks and number circles?
Took me a couple of minutes but that appears to be a valid method and example. It is also vile. It might lead a student without understanding to an answer but abstracting it out that far is going to make it much more difficult for most students to permanently grasp the fundamental concept.
