A Republican hopeful for the U.S. Senate who used a racial slur to describe undocumented immigrants has defended the language as normal in South Texas.
Chris Mapp, a Port O'Connor businessman, stood by his comments that wetbacks should be shot by ranchers and that President Barack Obama is a socialist son of a bitch remarks that have created a national stir among both parties.
That kind of rhetoric is discouraging from anybody, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said during a visit to a San Antonio charter school Friday. I recognize this is a free country but that's not the sort of way to gain people's confidence that you care about them and you want to represent their concerns in the halls of Congress.
Mapp, 53, first made the remarks at an editorial board meeting with the Dallas Morning News last week, but told the San Antonio Express-News on Friday that using the derogatory term for Mexican immigrants is as normal as breathing air in South Texas.

Seems the Paper has problems with names...Like Calling Criminal Invaders who are parasites of this Country Mexican Immigrants.
I’d call em Immigrants if they stood in line at the Border Crossing.
Crossing without following the Law is CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR. Expecting handouts from Social Services while shipping their UNTAXED income home is also TAX FRAUD and parasitic hehavior, mailing it or wiring it back to Mexico is MAIL FRAUD!
The correct term is “undocumented Democrats.”
I find his comments quite humorous-——and true.
.
Say no more, Senator, we hear you loud and clear.
“Cornyn also brought up a fact that most of those who fight reform probably dont think about: Mexico is the United States third-largest trading partner.”
“Cornyn also says, probably correctly, that most of the people who come from Mexico dont even want U.S. citizenship, they just want a job, to provide for their families.”
Cornyn believes Mexicans should dictate what immigration policy is.
Is cornyn fighting dirty for desperation?
This is the main risk with untested candidates. I’d like to see RINO Cornyn offloaded as well, but comments like these will come back to haunt Mapp in the general election if he gets the nomination.
As much as we might toss those terms around here in FR, that’s not the kind of verbiage that gets you elected.
note: put Mapp on my *to fund* map.
Mapp won’t win the primary. But he could force Cornyn into a runoff which would be a lot of fun.
Would have been better if he had not used such language; but, now that he has, his best bet is to do what the Democrats do — wallow in it, say it again and again, and stay on the offensive no matter what. We’ve got to stop running away every time the RINOS stamp their feet.
Just because Obama is an SOB and a Marxist is no reason for a polite gentlemen to call him an "SOB and a Socialist." Or a "Socialist SOB."
I prefer to think of our faux-POTUS as a Christ-like figure. That is, the exact nature of his paternity is always an interesting question. To be scrupulously fair, Mapp could have accurately called him a "Gay Socialist Son-of-a-Bitch," but in the spirit of Texas Christian charity,he refrained from doing so.
Now that, that is a gentleman.
President Eisenhower used the term wetback , so it must be OK and not a slur.
Exactly. Mapp is taking poll numbers away from Cornyn, not Stockman and Stovall. So my point of view is to give this guy as much publicity as possible.
It appears it is slipping away from Cornyn at a fast rate.
Should he have called them an “invasive species of primates”?
In any event, “wetback” is a generic term that
applies to all races, all sexes, who enter illegally over
our southern border.
So it isn’t a racial slur by any stretch of the imagination
except by racial pimps.
As if Hispanics didn’t use the term.
But yeah. own it. The left is going to call any republican a racist anyway so why fight it?
