A Texas businessman who is running for the U.S. Senate in the GOP primary is drawing fire for referring to people who cross the border illegally as wetbacks and, later, defending his use of the slur.
Chris Mapp, who is among several candidates challenging U.S. Sen. John Cornyn in the GOP primary on March 4, used the term during an editorial board meeting with the Dallas Morning News.
In explaining its endorsement of Cornyn in the primary, a Dallas Morning News editorial said: South Texas businessman Chris Mapp, 53, told this editorial board that ranchers should be allowed to shoot on sight anyone illegally crossing the border on to their land, referred to such people as wetbacks, and called the president a socialist son of a bitch.
Later, in an interview with the San Antonio Express-News, Mapp defended his use of the word and his characterization of undocumented immigrants.
He described the slur as normal for Texans.
Mapp said its use is as normal as breathing air in south Texas, according to the newspaper.
We can't have illegal immigrants, drug cartels, human traffickers or terrorists coming across our border, he said. Our borders can either be sealed by choice or force, and so far choice hasn't worked.
Cornyn condemned Mapps remarks.

Mapp For President
Now is a good time for #3 to flame out.. his supports will go to #2.. i wonder if he was a teaparty ringer
Definitely not cool of him for using the w-word.
As long as Cornyn thinks that watering down the status of United States Citizen will buy him some votes, he will continue to pander to the invaders.
I am deeply sorry that I voted to put him in the Senate to begin with and then voted to give him a second term.
As a matter of repentance, I swear to God that I will never vote for him again.
“Socialist son of a bitch is understating the situation.
Can I change my vote pls?
Too bad. So sad. People need to say what they mean and if other people don’t like it, they need to just get over it. “Hurt feelings” are ruining our country.
I’m little perplexed about the idea he is proposing. How is a rancher supposed to distinguish a “wetback” from a “non-wetback” who is just trespassing? Ask them for a green card before shooting them?
It might be pretty easy to guess who are the illegals, but what happens if you guess wrong?
“Definitely not cool of him for using the w-word.”
Soon to be banned in the NFL.
Mapp is now polling around 20%. If enough people show up on Tuesday, Cornyn will definitely be forced into a runoff as he’s polling closer to 40% now.
“Wetbacks” = condemn; “Kill all white people” = ignore.
If the wet shirt fits... ?
Something like that?
” How is a rancher supposed to distinguish a wetback from a non-wetback who is just trespassing? Ask them for a green card before shooting them?”
If they are swimming across the river it’s a sure tipoff.
The term “wetback” was about as common as it gets here in Texas when talking migrants and illegals. Still hear it some but not as much as you use too.
Also heard “wets” or “wet Mexican.”
My children’s friends call them “Mowers”.
