A Texas businessman who is running for the U.S. Senate in the GOP primary is drawing fire for referring to people who cross the border illegally as wetbacks and, later, defending his use of the slur.
Chris Mapp, who is among several candidates challenging U.S. Sen. John Cornyn in the GOP primary on March 4, used the term during an editorial board meeting with the Dallas Morning News.
In explaining its endorsement of Cornyn in the primary, a Dallas Morning News editorial said: South Texas businessman Chris Mapp, 53, told this editorial board that ranchers should be allowed to shoot on sight anyone illegally crossing the border on to their land, referred to such people as wetbacks, and called the president a socialist son of a bitch.
Later, in an interview with the San Antonio Express-News, Mapp defended his use of the word and his characterization of undocumented immigrants.
He described the slur as normal for Texans.
Mapp said its use is as normal as breathing air in south Texas, according to the newspaper.
We can't have illegal immigrants, drug cartels, human traffickers or terrorists coming across our border, he said. Our borders can either be sealed by choice or force, and so far choice hasn't worked.
Cornyn condemned Mapps remarks.

Wouldn’t want to offend any foreign law breakers.
I couldn't say it any better, so I bolded and supersized it.
Mapp a diamond in the rough. God luv him. :-)
IMO, the real threat is not the drywall worker
returning from a Mexican family visit - it's
misguided Islamists that are new Wetbacks..
The politican who uses his freedom of speech to
explain that - gets my $$.
Don’t need to know if they are wets.
How about we just call them trespasser, hang a sign..All Trespassers Will Be Shot..and call it a day.
The wetbacks come over to the rancher’s private property, trash it, kill his cattle and know the federal gov’t will be on their side if he tries to defend his family or property.
I am SO glad I haven’t voted yet, Chris Mapp just earned my vote !
However, there is the possibility that your transgression in voting for him was commission of the unpardonable sin.
Nothing like a good mud fest to help folks get to know each other a little better.
May the Good Guy win!!
Tell us what you really think, Mr Mapp! Don’t hold back ;-)
W-word? Look, I understand the use of "f-word" to mask its offensive, vulgar actual term. But wetback has a rich history of common usage not only here in Texas but throughout America. It's descriptive in the same sense that "redneck" means a hard-working guy whose neck is red from toiling in the hot sun.
The enormously successful program that sent hundreds of thousands of criminals back to Mexico during the Eisenhower era was:
And it's revival for version 2.0 of that effective program is long, long overdue.
Simple. Lawyers line up for the chance to sue the ranch owner for his entire property. It's happened before.
Tresspassers? No, that would be your neighbor that you asked to not go on your Property.
A Mexican or any other Illegally crossing the Border without going thru customs is a CRIMINAL INVADER. You want in this country, Respect the law. That means get in LINE!
I am all for Military Armed-Manned towers with shoot to kill orders with Drone Surviellance.
My childrens friends call them Mowers.

I wonder if this guy is a plant or a false flag operator. All of pro amnesty crowd must be thrilled to have this guy spouting off.
The Republican Party has become undefined and is fractured by the fear of offending anyone who does not share the views of the GOP. We are so afraid of being "politically incorrect" that we don't stand up for what we believe.
My beliefs are based on the Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the United States as it was written, not as it has been interpreted or changed by the Supreme Court.
America is strong because we are a nation of diverse cultures but we must all be Americans first.
And for background, here's what President Coolidge said:
American institutions rest solely on good citizenship. They were created by people who had a background of self-government. New arrivals should be limited to our capacity to absorb them into the ranks of good citizenship. America must be kept American. For this purpose it is necessary to continue a policy of restricted immigration. It would be well to make such immigration of a selective nature with some inspection at the source, and based either on a prior census or upon the record of naturalization. Either method would insure the admission of those with the largest capacity and best intention of becoming citizens. Those who do not want to be partakers of the American spirit ought not to settle in America.
“Now is a good time for #3 to flame out.. his supports will go to #2.. i wonder if he was a tea party ringer”
No, leave him in until the primary is over. He is a “niche candidate” who has substantial appeal with those living near the border. He will garner votes that Stockman and others would not get. Everything now should be centered on denying Cornhole a primary victory without a runoff. The Tea Party should have had a number of “single issue candidates” on the ballot to siphon off the votes of these people who might otherwise vote for Cornhole.
“How about we just call them trespasser, hang a sign..All Trespassers Will Be Shot..and call it a day.”
Maybe because that’s not legal, even in Texas?
Bingo. The emasculation of America is something the enemy seizes upon. The MB in Egypt, Benghazi, Russia in the Ukraine, Iran's nuclear expansion, NK outbursts, and just about every domestic group including THE GAY THREE PERCENT OF THE POPULATION WHO TELLS 97% OF THE POPULATION WHAT TO DO and a President who HELPS THEM. Brewer bowed to 'hurt feelings' as well.
The emasculation of America is the white flag of surrender, domestically and internationally.
