Jane -- I just took at look at Chris Mapp's website and he seems to be a no-nonsense kind of a guy. I've already cast my vote so it's too late to change my ballot now but his words remind me of those spoke by Calvin Coolidge in 1924:

The Republican Party has become undefined and is fractured by the fear of offending anyone who does not share the views of the GOP. We are so afraid of being "politically incorrect" that we don't stand up for what we believe.

My beliefs are based on the Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the United States as it was written, not as it has been interpreted or changed by the Supreme Court.

America is strong because we are a nation of diverse cultures but we must all be Americans first.

And for background, here's what President Coolidge said:

American institutions rest solely on good citizenship. They were created by people who had a background of self-government. New arrivals should be limited to our capacity to absorb them into the ranks of good citizenship. America must be kept American. For this purpose it is necessary to continue a policy of restricted immigration. It would be well to make such immigration of a selective nature with some inspection at the source, and based either on a prior census or upon the record of naturalization. Either method would insure the admission of those with the largest capacity and best intention of becoming citizens. Those who do not want to be partakers of the American spirit ought not to settle in America.
