So, I'm a Millennial and a leftist. Zot away (Froggy Mod says "Adieu")

Posted on 02/24/2014 3:17:38 PM PST by Millennial Lefty

So, I lurk on Free Republic quite a bit. Usually it's to read some of the outrageous comments some post here and some of it is to see what your opinions are on certain articles that also get posted elsewhere.

So, a little bit about myself. I'm in my 20s and of Hispanic origin. I was born in New York but moved to Florida when I was three years old. I'm what you guys would consider a "socialist". I don't consider myself a socialist, I'm a supporter of the free market economy except I favor strong government regulations.

While on many issues am probably to the left of the Democratic Party there is one issue I agree with the Republicans but it isn't an issue that would ever sway me to vote for the Republican Party. That issue is gun rights. I love guns and I believe the 2nd amendment is a fundamental right to the people of the United States. I don't believe in a ban on "assault" weapons or on accessories like there is on certain sized magazines. I also support the right for one to properly defend themselves with or without deadly force with your legally owned firearm.

However, on economic and social issues I side with the DNC. I'm probably to the left of the DNC on most issues.

So anyways, ask away.

I, for one, think we should allow leftists, an like Millennial Lefty, probatial chance to come and debate on FR.

AS long as they come with an turthfullyrespectful attitude.

Sometimes, some threads on FR sound like an echo chamber, which, can be isolating and leads to a false sense of empowerment.

But more importantly, we lose an chance at actually converting an opponent.

Don't know about y’al;l but when I was younger in the seventies, I, like Millennial Lefty, lend to the Democratic Party with issues like abortion, gum control, big government.

Luckily, after a taste of Democratic rule under Carter(yeech!! but a bitter lesson of misrule and incompetant ) I cast my first presidential vote for Reagan and never looked back!!

“Their plan is to blame the kenyancare mess on the GOP for not wanting to “help fix” democratcare. Disgusting.”

It’s a political strategy. A bad one at that, but it’s a strategy none the less.

They’re learning class warfare is tired, old drivel from the 1960s and it’s not working this time. Their polling data show that. They started off the year in full force spewing the economic justice or whatever-the-hell that stupid class warfare message was (income equality! That’s it!). That rhetoric has kind of died down if you haven’t noticed :-).

They desperately need some new drivel to divert from Obamacare failures seeing that the “War on Women” is not working like it used to (it works in some areas, but isn’t the national message it used to be ... it only works in those swing districts that are trending blue anyway).

They’re on full defense. Expect a lot of nonsense like this in the coming months. They’re throwing the equivalent of Hail Mary passes while playing defense. That makes no sense of course, but neither does your average Democrat.

This new message pinning blame on the GOP is not going to work.

Quite frankly, if my job were to try and start a new political dialog about Obamacare and I worked for these fools, what was described would be the gist of the pathetic argument. I’d NEVER sink to that level of filth though and I would be 100% cognizant that the idea is bad at best :-). Still, they are that bankrupt in the idea department. I’d expect all sorts of new nonsense that won’t stick over the next few months.

I’d normally be excited, but the GOP elite is still the opposition to this nonsense Democratic Party. I wish the GOP would capitalize on this frigging amazing opportunity by offering up some badly needed Conservative solutions to many of our nations problems, but they’re more concerned about simply taking over spending our way into oblivion via control of Senate committees and blaming the increased spending on Obama (much like they did to us from 2007 to 2009). They can’t afford to have a bunch of Tea Party ignoramuses trying to do senseless things like cut spending when the elites have pet projects of their own ... (please note I am being sarcastic in that last sentence :-) ).

Sorry for my rambling.

I’ll bet she hasn’t heard of any of them.

It's been zotted, unzotted, and then re-zotted. Reminds me of an Army nurse I knew that would say: "I can kill you, bring you back, and kill you again" if you made her angry.

“I’m a supporter of the free market economy except I favor strong government regulations. “

Depends, are you in favor of a few regulations that are strongly enforced? Or in favor of Many Regulations that selectively enforced? Or in favor of many regulations that are all strongly enforced?

Because most of the people here on free republic would be in favor of a very small number of common sense regulations that are Heavily and EQUALLY enforced.

The problem is when you have so many regulations that no one EXCEPT a “Supposedly Evil big Business” can hire enough people in offices to ensure compliance of such regulations.. This squeezes the small and mid sized businesses in favor of the “Big Businesses” that liberals love to write regulations for, which doesn’t actually solve the “intial” problem but makes it worse.

It is Problem —> Solution —> More damn problems.

One can have Limited Government and “Strong Regulations” but the NUMBER of regulations has to be SMALL in Number by definition and CLEARLY defined with no damned WEASEL words in them... The Federal Register (all the federal laws and regulations) in Totality should be readable in a weekend by the average CITIZEN.

Too many people confuse “Strong Regulation” with a “Multitude of Regulation”, the Multitude of Regulations creates an environement where companies like GE (Obama’s favorite big business) can get away with virtual business murder while mom and pop’s farmers market gets shut down because it is a mile too close to a state border....

Of course if you have a Many Regulations that are all strongly controlled you have complete despotism, which is even worse than the system we have now which is many laws selectively enforced, but hey at least everyone is miserable like in a commie country.

In order to hit that “Happy Balance” I would say End most if not ALL FEDERAL regulations and move that responsibility BACK to the states, let the 50 independednt labratories find a happy medium..

The federal government has just a few well defined duties. One of those is to protect the border and soverignty of the United States. If they spent less time screwing around with the naturual flow of the market maybe they could patrol the damn border (sea and land) like they are supposed to be doing. Along with other duties that are constutitionally defined.

Most only want small government when it comes to keeping the “man” off their backs, but could care less about the rest of society and the job creators...

Favoring strong government regulations on business means that you're not a supporter of the free market economy.

would say End most if not ALL FEDERAL regulations and move that responsibility BACK to the states

Exhibit A: The Board of Education

Let States or even Counties fork out the money for the schools without federal interference. You put the Local Municipalities in the Education Game and it WILL improve, no more passing the buck to the federal government.
